On this day in 1955, a dream opened its gates.

“To all who come to this happy place… welcome.”

With those words, Walt Disney dedicated Disneyland to the world—a place where parents and children could experience joy together, where the past, the future, and fantasy could all exist in one magical place.

Opening Day, however, was anything but magical.

Thousands of guests arrived with counterfeit tickets. Traffic stretched for miles. Food and drinks ran out. Rides broke down. Fresh asphalt softened in the California heat, trapping high heels in the pavement. Live television broadcasted every mishap to millions of viewers.

Many called it a disaster.

Walt called it the beginning.

When reporters later asked why he kept adding new attractions instead of simply finishing the park, Walt smiled and replied:

“Disneyland will never be completed. It will continue to grow as long as there is imagination left in the world.”

That wasn’t just a response to the press, it became the philosophy that still shapes Disney Parks today.

Today, 71 years later, Disneyland stands as proof that even an imperfect beginning can become an extraordinary legacy.

Walt once said, “I only hope that we never lose sight of one thing—that it was all started by a mouse.”

But perhaps it was started by something even bigger: imagination, perseverance, and the courage to believe that happiness was worth building.

Happy Anniversary, Disneyland. Thank you, Walt, for reminding generations that dreams aren’t built overnight—they’re built by refusing to give up, even when opening day doesn’t go as planned. ✨

The best souvenirs aren’t always the ones you buy… they’re the ones that bring you back to a moment. ❤️✨

While wandering through the Germany Pavilion in EPCOT, we took a break to create something we’d keep long after the vacation was over. At Glaskunst, my kids made custom glass magnets and somehow, it became one of our favorite memories from the trip.

🎨 Here’s how it works:
• You can choose magnets, ornaments, trinket dishes, plates and nightlights 
• You can personalize your piece with Disney decals
• Design your piece however you want (cast members help if needed)
• Magnets were $19 each
• I used my Disney Visa for a discount (be sure to ask about others)
• Your artwork is fired and shipped directly to your home, usually arriving in 2–4 weeks (ours arrived in just 2 weeks)

Now, every time I see those magnets on our refrigerator, I’m not just reminded of EPCOT. I’m reminded of slowing down, creating together, and bringing a little piece of that Disney magic home with us.

Because the most meaningful souvenirs aren’t the ones that cost the most—they’re the ones that hold a memory.

Sometimes a “bad” viewing spot isn’t actually bad—it just depends on what you’re there to see. ✨

I wasn’t thrilled with our Disney Starlight view. We were behind the walking path, and balloons kept drifting into our line of sight. But instead of moving, we stayed put…

The moment the parade ended, we turned around and realized we had a front row view for Happily Ever After.

Funny how one small disappointment can turn into one of your favorite Disney memories. ❤️
