We have been in business in the Channel Islands for more than 15yrs and in those 15 years transportation between the islands has deteriorated and courier services for equipment has also deteriorated. I am so perplexed how inefficiency's are now MUCH worse than 15 years ago. For example we work in both Jersey & Guernsey and 15 years ago, I would hop onto a Aurigny flight with all my equipment, no question, no extra charges, no problems. Once Aurigny stopped the interisland service we had the original Blue Islands, who would accommodate also, then they went down and Flymaybe took over, who made it impossible for us to fly with our equipment. We then started using the Ferry - Condor, who at the time often had decent day returns and lots of sailings to choose from, so this worked for a while, but over time, mainly since Covid, sailings were fewer and far between, but we could still make it work, I didn't want to let any of our Guernsey clients down, so keeping them abreast of transportation issues was key. Now we are facing a situation, where I am unable to book with certainty any Guernsey Clients beyond March.
So in 15 years its gone from easy to non existent.
Its not just the interisland transportation that has deteriorated, we have over 12 items of equipment that require being sent back to the UK every year (at varying times) for annual calibration. 15 years ago, I could have a courier pick it up and it was gone the same day! Now, when I send equipment back the courier service adds weeks to the time I am without my equipment, because pallets get held in ports, the paperwork has become so longwinded and red taped and don't even start me on getting it released from customs on its return. EVERY time it gets stopped and the process to get it released constantly evolves and is slower each time, during this time, I am unable to work. So to help with the situation, I then spend thousands of pounds getting additional equipment, which then means that also requires annual calibration, and costs even more. We are a local Channel Island company and because of that we are heavily penalised. Being a small business and surviving in the Channel Islands takes true grit and determination. I have now acquired Tourette's from frustration. Please can the Governments of Jersey & Guernsey just stop and work together and see the bigger picture.
