On my first trip to Jamaica, many, many years ago
(I know I look good for my age! ha ha)
This was many moons before becoming a Jamaican citizen which I am extremely proud to be now,
(that is a long story best saved for one of those beautiful,warm, moonlit nights while the tree frogs bleep and surrounded by the smell of tropical flowers with an iced drink with a cute little umberella in it...don't forget the cherry and pineapple on a stick!)
I remember just having this unusual urge to go to Jamaica.
A few years prior to that I am not sure I had even heard of the place called Jamaica. I had definitely heard of the Caribbean but I was never great with the world globe in geography class.
The geography teacher smelled of coffee and I called him the snoozemaster because he would send us all to sleep!

The first dreams and urges to go to anywhere remotely like Jamaica was an advertisement on the television which is funny as I always switch off /turn over the television when the adverts come on and I am one of those people who do not feel the urge to rush out and buy anything they show on the adverts! But this ONE advert ....oh boy....a sea in my favourite colour, this absolutely gorgeous haze of aqua and blues and it looked really calm, warm and sparkling with the sunshine and it was gently lapping the white sand,
That had me in a trance straight away and then a woman came running down the beach all happy and tanned,
It was an advert for one of the big all inclusives but I remember it just like it was yesterday and instead of thinking oh wow I would like to BOOK a holiday to there, I was thinking I need to LIVE there! and so the journey began!
I would absolutely love to share with you every detail of every single absolutely fantastic trip but it will take forever to type and I am sure you are all way too busy (UNTIL OUR TRIP!) to have the time to hear it all but I will share snippets of my journeys so hopefully I will not turn into snoozemaster the second!

So first of all for all of the newbies (first timers) to Jamaica you may have doubts and FEAR,
I must admit I never have fear of trying out new countries and cultures and practices , I find it very interesting and love it , I am well travelled but in saying that I had never been to the Caribbean or had even thought about it before that advertisement on my television.
Once I decided I was going to book my first trip this is when FEAR came into place, not from myself but from everybody surrounding me , they ALL had something to say , something to worry about something to instill fear into me about,
Every time I mentioned my dream trip of a lifetime to that gorgeous blue sea and white sand and I was going to be the happy tanned woman running down that beach they ALL wanted to warn me against going to the big bad foreign place that was called Jamaica.
I was told I might get murdered! What if they rob me at the airport ? what if the customs people set me up and put me in jail until someone pays my ransom? What about all of the drugs? what if they forced them on me and then I would be an addict what if I got kidnapped ? What if it was really dirty and I could get seriously poorly ? what if the food has gone bad and not cooked properly and I get really ill?
Everyone was shaking their head saying I cannot believe you want to go THERE. Why there? why can't you go somewhere else? It is an island of poverty that is not a holiday please choose somewhere else.You must be mad.
So after they had took me through every single possible way I could die on my dream paradise holiday I sat down and analysed the FACTS, Which were not one single person out of that bunch had ever been to Jamaica nor knew anyone that had been and never actually been to the Caribbean! So their opinions were based on most likely a highly creative imagination.
Anyway I was booked this was my dream trip, I am a savvy street wise person and I had done my research and I wanted to experience it for myself. I did not want to be like all of them people who just dismiss an idea and a whole island and culture when they know absolutely zero about it.That is just pure ignorance in my little humble opinion. So I was booked and ready to experience this paradise. I was leaving the fearful people sat at home glued to the bad news on the media and letting fear control them. I was setting myself FREE!

I was ready to experience real life , something different from the hum drum norm of the boring fearful life and misery in the freezing cold looking at the dead trees and tired faces of those people that surrounded me! ...................tbc

Happy new year when it comes! Photo courtesy of google I am afraid as seeing a picture of me skipping down the beach in a bikini will not make a good advert after all of the good food I ate over the holidays!
