Jerk chicken is one of Jamaica’s most iconic dishes—bold, smoky, spicy, and deeply rooted in history and culture.

🌶️ What “jerk” means

“Jerk” refers to both the seasoning and the cooking method. The meat (usually chicken or pork) is marinated in a spicy blend, then slow-cooked over a fire—traditionally using pimento (allspice) wood, which gives it that signature smoky flavor.

🌴 Beach Life

Negril’s 7-mile stretch of white sand beach becomes the center of activity during spring break. By day people:
• Swim and sunbathe
• Jet ski or parasail
• Bar-hop along the beach
• Drink cold Red Stripe while listening to reggae

The atmosphere is relaxed but social — people often walk the beach barefoot from bar to bar.

Let Roy Stephenson Tours take you off the beaten path, where real Jamaican culture, nature, and unforgettable experiences await.

Roaring River Park is a natural attraction located near Petersfield in the parish of Westmoreland. It is known for its underground river, limestone caves, mineral springs, and deep swimming holes, making it one of the unique natural spots in western Jamaica.

The area was once part of the Roaring River Estate, a large sugar plantation owned by the Beckford family during the colonial period.

Roaring River also has a spiritual and Rastafarian reputation in the area. Many visitors describe the cave and river as a place for meditation, drumming, and connection with nature, and some reggae artists have visited or spent time there.

The underground spring inside the cave is believed by some locals to have healing properties.

🇯🇲 Jamaica National Flag

The Jamaican flag was adopted in 1962, when Jamaica gained independence from United Kingdom.

Colors & Meaning:
• 🟢 Green – The land and agriculture (Jamaica’s natural beauty and hope)
• 🟡 Gold – Sunshine and natural wealth
• ⚫ Black – The strength and resilience of the people

The official meaning is often summarized as:
“Hardships there are, but the land is green and the sun shineth.”

This flag represents all Jamaican people, regardless of religion or beliefs.

🇪🇹 Rastafarian Flag

The Rastafarian flag uses Red, Gold, and Green, often with the Lion of Judah.

It is connected to:
• The Rastafari movement (founded in Jamaica in the 1930s)
• Ethiopia and African identity
• The coronation of Haile Selassie in 1930
• The symbolism of Ethiopia as the spiritual homeland

Colors & Meaning:
• 🔴 Red – The blood of African ancestors and martyrs
• 🟡 Gold – Wealth and prosperity of Africa
• 🟢 Green – The beauty and land of Africa

The Lion of Judah represents:
• Strength
• Kingship
• Biblical connection to the tribe of Judah

The Rastafarian flag is a religious and cultural symbol, not a national flag of Jamaica.

Key Cultural Understanding
• 🇯🇲 The Jamaican flag = National identity & independence
• 🇪🇹 The Rastafarian flag = Spiritual identity, African roots, and resistance

Many Jamaicans embrace both culturally, especially in music like reggae influenced by artists such as Bob Marley, but they serve different purposes.

In simple terms:
One represents the nation, the other represents a movement and faith born in Jamaica but rooted in Africa.
