My father was one of the first 8 Jamaican doctors to be trained in Jamaica. He came right back to Black River to work in the Black River Hospital.
Harold Roy Francis loved this town, and passed on that love to his family.

Did you know that St. John's Church spearheaded the founding of Black River High School (then Black River Junior Secondary) in 1970? And that when the land earmarked for the school was deemed by the Ministry of Education to be to small, it was members of St. John's who donated 4 acres of land to achieve the required acreage?

Scotiabank Black River was the 1st Jamaican branch of the Bank of Nova Scotia to open outside of Kingston. It remained in operation for arround 110 years. The branch closed during COVID and the building is now up for sale. I believe the 1st woman to own a car in Jamaica worked there - a friend of my grandmother named Hilda Eaton. I can only hope that whoever buys this historic spot will be a positive influence in our town.
