If you are planning a trip to Jordan, besides the classic must see destinations, we strongly suggest not overlooking Aqaba. Here is why.
Aqaba offers sea, culture, history, nature and a completely different atmosphere compared to the rest of the country. But it needs to be understood and experienced in the right places. You can explore coral reefs and colorful underwater life, snorkel around well known sites like the tank or the Hercules plane, enjoy equipped beach clubs or more natural beaches, stroll through local markets and traditional restaurants, taste fresh fish, have dinner by the sea and enjoy the dramatic views of the Araba valley mountains at sunset.
Beyond the sea, there are places many people do not even know exist: a beautiful mosque worth a respectful visit, a modern and well curated aquarium, a migratory bird observatory for nature lovers and, for those who enjoy trekking, mountain trails overlooking the city with surprising views.
Another advantage is the weather. While other parts of Jordan can be cold and windy during winter, Aqaba often offers sunny days and short sleeves. Summer is hot of course, but the sea breeze and time on the water make it manageable.
Aqaba can be an unforgettable part of your journey when visited with the right expectations and good information. It deserves more than a rushed opinion or a half day visit. It deserves to be discovered.
