Fresh seafood in Hokkaido without the tourist prices? 🦪

Just outside Sapporo is Tomakomai’s ぷらっとみなと市場 (Puratto Minato Market), a local seafood market known for its fresh Sakhalin surf clams (Hokkigai), seafood straight from the port, and surprisingly affordable prices!

What blew my mind was the cost. I was fully expecting to spend ¥3,000–¥5,000 on a meal, but many meals started from around ¥1,000, and seafood bowls were only around ¥2,000–¥3,000 🤯

I tried the grilled surf clam and the deep-fried surf clam set meal, and both were incredibly fresh and delicious! 🤤

If you’re planning a trip to Hokkaido and love seafood, this spot is worth adding to your itinerary.

Hokkaido is warming up, and I know exactly where I’m going 🍨

It’s starting to feel like summer in Sapporo, and after a long day of walking around the city, I just had to stop for gelato. One of my favorite places to cool down is Sorriso dell’Orso, a gelato shop in Sapporo with an incredible selection of flavors.

I went with chocolate, pistachio, honey, and Jersey milk, and every scoop was delicious. They also had unique seasonal flavors like asparagus, which seemed to be especially popular with the other locals at the shop. I was tempted to try it too, but I had already eaten asparagus for breakfast that morning 😂

With so many flavors on display, it honestly reminded me of having gelato every day while I was in Florence 🇮🇹

If you’re visiting Sapporo in summer and looking for a sweet treat, this is definitely a spot worth adding to your itinerary.

This is not the Netherlands… this is Kamiyubetsu in Hokkaido 🌷🇯🇵

This is my absolute favorite tulip field in Hokkaido. The whole park is massive, with 700,000 tulips and around 200 different varieties blooming in every color 🌷

It’s pretty far from Sapporo, but I genuinely think it’s worth the trip once you see the endless rows of tulips in person 🥹✨

Missed sakura season in Hokkaido? Go here instead! 🌸⛰️

If you’re visiting Hokkaido in late spring, don’t worry if the cherry blossoms are already gone. This is one of my favorite places to see shibazakura, with beautiful pink fields and Mount Yotei in the background!

Shibazakura, also known as moss phlox, usually blooms from mid-May to early June. The pink flowers cover the ground, and with Mount Yotei in the background, the view is just so beautiful!

Please note that this is private property, so if you visit, be respectful and take care not to disturb the area 🙇🏻‍♀️

The best souvenirs to bring home from Tokachi 🇯🇵🎁

Tokachi is located in eastern Hokkaido and is known as one of the best food-producing regions in Japan. The area is famous for its dairy products, wheat, beans, potatoes, and sugar beets, which is why so many of Hokkaido’s best sweets and baked goods come from here!

Some of my favorite souvenirs from Tokachi are milk, drinkable yogurt, butter, cheese, wine, cookies and all kinds of delicious sweets. Everything tastes so fresh, and you can really tell how high-quality the ingredients are 🥛

If you’re visiting Tokachi, make sure to leave some extra space in your suitcase. Trust me, you’ll want to bring a lot home! I kind of regret not buying more because we’ve already finished all the omiyage we brought home 😅

🎁 Which souvenir would you buy first?

This hotel in Hokkaido was built in the middle of a forest 100 years ago, and it’s my favorite hotel in Obihiro 🌲

As soon as you get here, you feel surrounded by nature. From the brick walls to the wood carvings, everything feels so warm and uniquely Hokkaido.

Our room had its own garden, and honestly, I didn’t want to leave. There are Ezo squirrels and birds in the courtyard, and the hotel even offers guided Ezo squirrel spotting tours. One of my favorite things to do was just sit outside and listen to the birds.

The food was amazing too. Everything is made with fresh ingredients from Tokachi. I had the Japanese breakfast, my husband chose the Western breakfast, and both were delicious and really filling.

They’re also known for their rare Moor Onsen, which leaves your skin feeling soft and moisturized ♨️

If you’re planning a trip to Obihiro, you should definitely stay at Forest Spa Hokkaido Hotel.

I thought I was just watching SUMO… until I found myself in the ring with a real sumo wrestler in Sapporo, Japan 🤣

After posting that funny clip yesterday, I wanted to show you what the full sumo experience in Sapporo was actually like.

We pounded fresh mochi, watched a geisha performance, enjoyed chanko nabe (the same hot pot sumo wrestlers eat), learned about the history and traditions of Japanese sumo wrestling, and even stepped into the ring to challenge a real sumo wrestler!

We had an absolute blast, and were laughing so hard that our jaws hurt 🤣

If you’re looking for one of the most fun and unique things to do in Sapporo, you have to try this!

Would you step into the ring with a real sumo wrestler? 😳

One of the cutest shrines in Sapporo ⛩️🐦

Sapporo Suwa Shrine has gone viral for its adorable shimaenaga omamori, inspired by Hokkaido’s famous fluffy “snow fairy” bird. But beyond the cute charms, this shrine is also known for blessings of love, safe childbirth, family happiness, and matchmaking ✨

The beautiful flower water basin and flower-shaped omamori make this one of the most unique shrines to visit in Hokkaido.
