I’m finally starting to get results with my 10-inch mirror Newtonian Telescope. There was only an hour before it got cloudy for a while, but I was able to capture the North America Nebula (NGC 7000) and the Pelican Nebula (IC5070) alongside a comet, I believe. The stars aren’t perfectly round, and I’d like to gather more frames to stack together for a higher quality image, but after six weeks of studying all this new tech, I’m happy to be getting results I can build on.

We trimmed our Anthurium plant back so I grabbed my microscope and photographed a cross section of the spadix which you see here at 200x magnification. I believe these are pollen tubes close to the outer edge of the spadix.

We trimmed our Anthurium plant back so I grabbed my microscope and photographed a cross section of the stem which you see here at 200x magnification. I find it crazy that there are flower shapes in the parenchyma, which I believe is the name for the layer inside the outer skin or epidermis.

The first of our two maple trees filled itself with a coat of deep red leaves that are gradually turning green from the central veins. Being able to grab a camera and make photographs like this in my own garden is like a dream come true for me.

After 24 years living in apartments with minuscule balconies, it’s amazingly fulfilling to finally have a garden again. We now have some flower borders and there had been some light rain around dawn today, so I grabbed my camera and macro lens to photograph the wet petals on one of our arctotis flowers. This is a five image stack to get focus throughout the flower head. I also darkened down the background to highlight the flower more.

After 24 years living in apartments with minuscule balconies, it’s amazingly fulfilling to finally have a garden again. We now have four trees planted and some flower borders. There’d been some light rain around dawn today, so I grabbed my camera and macro lens to photograph the dew drops on the young, still hairy leaves on our young persimmon tree.

During my Hokkaido Winter Landscape Adventure, I recorded a conversation with an old friend, David Lee, and reminisced about how we met and discussed his new passion for storm chasing.
