Yoshi e Yashi Cafe and Gallery opened earlier this year in the Tsunozu area of Gotsu city. The cafe was renovated from an old Japanese home and features hand-crafted wood furniture made by local students, an ancient phonograph that they sometimes crank up, and a selection of Japanese pottery and English china for sale. We had keema curry set with freshly brewed coffee. In the winter there’s a wood-fired stove, so it’s a cozy place to visit from Saturday to Wednesday 9:00 to 19:00.

The Ogawa Clan’s Sesshu garden is open to the public, courtesy of the present owner. Call in advance in Japanese to make a reservation: ☎️0855-53-1213. 500 yen for adult admission.
The garden is over 500 years old and is an example of karesansui style, a dry rock garden. In older times water was channeled among the rocks and carp swam in the pond. Recently you can only see water flowing in the garden during heavy rain. The garden is just off Route 9, up a narrow track. If you’re driving, park and walk unless you have a very small car!

Another great day for the Iwami Travel Guide Team, thanks to the Ginzan 33 Temple Pilgrimage group! Ryogonji, Anrakuji, Mononobe shrine, and a visit to Iwami silver mine’s village. Leaves are beginning to change colour so it’s an excellent day trip!

Beat the heat at Aquas, the oceanarium in Hamada, with beluga, seals, sea lions, penguins, sharks and more. And air con! It’s a few minutes walk to the sea so it’s a great day out with kids.
