そしてその後、私は幸運にも、
現代世界を動かす
偉人たちに直接会って、
指導してもらう機会に恵まれました。
キッシンジャー、ドラッガー、
ダライラマ法王…。
彼らは皆、光り輝いていました。
どのようにして傷つき、倒れ、
再び立ち上がり、闘い抜いたか…。
その裏打ちがあればこそ、
彼らが放つ一言に、
心を打つ迫力があります。
そして、彼らが大切にしている
ことは、たった2つでした。
「何のために」、
「どこまでやるか」。
即ち、「相手の幸せのために」、
「全力を尽くす」。
「どこまで、人の幸せを
願える自分になれるか」。
これは、明らかに「人」との
関わりの中で、
つちかわれてきた真理です。

I was wrong.
Everything about how I thought, how I lived—
It was all wrong.
That’s how strongly I felt.
It was the moment my life changed.
I asked a question to Margaret Thatcher,
and even I, clueless as I was, understood.
The meaning of the word “win”—
It was completely different from what I had thought.
To Thatcher, to win meant
risking her life for the happiness of others,
and winning the battle against herself.
After that, I was fortunate enough
to meet and be mentored by
some of the great figures who shape the modern world.
Henry Kissinger, Peter Drucker,
His Holiness the Dalai Lama...
They all radiated light.
How they were hurt, knocked down,
stood back up, and fought on...
That kind of depth
gave their words an undeniable power
that touched the heart.
And what they all valued came down to just two things:
“For what purpose?”
“To what extent will you commit?”
In other words,
“For the happiness of others,”
“Give it your all.”
“How much can you become someone
who genuinely wishes for the happiness of others?”
This is clearly a truth
forged through human connection.
There is no greater way to grow as a person
than by meeting and engaging with others.
