It was supposed to be an easy tour… the weather got a bit mad and we were stuck for few hours in a snow storm in the middle of nowhere. But right before the worst part of the storm hit, we have reached Jogasaki Kaigan - a great natural spot with volcanic rocks as a coastline. A day well spent in Kamakura!✅😇⛩️

Had the chance to explore some Kamakura’s hidden gems today organized by !

🍵 Hokokuji Temple – Started the day with matcha in a stunning bamboo grove. Sipping tea while surrounded by that peaceful green—pure magic.

🧘 Hokaiji Temple – Took a moment for zazen meditation. Even a short session makes such a difference—just breathe, be still, get bitten by the head monk, be still again and reset. 😂

🍱 Shojin Ryori on Kamakura-bori lacquerware – Lunch was not just delicious but a whole experience. Beautifully crafted dishes, all plant-based, served on traditional Kamakura lacquerware. Tasted as good as it looked! Vegan ice cream made of rice, soy and coconut milks with black beans tea and dates… a beautiful date!

🚶 Strolling through Kamakura’s streets – No rush, just wandering, taking in the atmosphere, and appreciating why this place never gets old.

Always something new to love about Kamakura but today especially had a great company of two fellow guides! Thanks, and and of course !

Trying yudofu shojin ryori (vegetarian boiled tofu) lunch at Seigenin restaurant located on Ryoanji garden premises in Kyoto.
This garden becomes a perfect hanami blooming flower watching spot during spring-summer-autumn seasons. Definitely have to come back here again.

✨ A day well spent in Uji, the heart of Japan’s finest green tea! 🍵
Strolled through the stunning Byodoin Temple, immortalized on the 10-yen coin 🪙, and savored the rich, umami-packed taste of Gyokuro – both in my cup and on my plate (yes, you can eat it). A perfect pairing with reflections on The Tale of Genji and the legacy of Murasaki Shikibu, who found inspiration here centuries ago. 🌸💭
Plum trees weren’t blooming yet… but you can literally see how spring is stepping in!

✨ Celebrating Setsubun at Nogi Jinja! 👹🌿

Today, Feb 2nd, I had a chance to experience the Setsubun festival at Nogi Jinja! This traditional event marks the beginning of spring in the old Japanese calendar and is all about driving away bad luck and welcoming good fortune.

At the shrine, I joined the crowd in shouting “Oni wa soto! Fuku wa uchi!” while tossing beans to ward off evil spirits. The lively atmosphere, the sound of laughter, and the sight of people eagerly catching lucky beans made it such an experience.

Nogi Jinja - one of my favorite shrines in Tokyo added a unique charm to the festival. It always has something special - this time at least two white plum trees in full bloom! Plum has just started blooming in Kanto area and it’s still rare to find such beautiful trees!

Getting unaju here is a task itself - need to get a ticket before the restaurant opens and wait for your turn to get in. Kawatoyo is a famous unagi restaurant at Narita-san not far away from Narita airport. Mild and delicious sweet taste is a must-try for anyone visiting the area. The grilled eel is prepared fresh and served with the perfect balance of flavors.

Finally could do a Hatsumode - the first prayer of the year at Narita-san temple. Could also get new charms for home safety, luck and trade fortune. Now my Kumade (the bear’s paw) is even bigger and hopefully will bring even more commercial success!
