Rainy Days = Beautiful Fog!

The rainy season has started particularly early in Iya and all of Shikoku this year, about 3 or 4 weeks earlier than normal, and is the earliest start to the rainy season in the history of officially taking statistics!

Hopefully the early start means it will be finished all that much sooner, allowing the later half of June and early July (which would normally be wet) to therefore be clear.

But one nice thing about the rainy season is that it allows for some beautiful fog formations throughout the Iya Valley, so if you do visit at this time, its always wonderful to see the drifting clouds upon the lush green landscape!

Due to the Coronavirus, during Golden Week from May 1st to May 5th (maybe..?), all indoor public facilities in Tokushima Prefecture will be closed (such as the museums and probably the historic houses in the Iya Valley).
However, outdoor places (like the Kazurabashi Vine Bridges) will still be open as normal.
If you are planning to visit during Golden Week, please stay safe by wearing a face mask, washing your hands, and staying socially distant.

Spring Has Sprung In Iya !!
Despite the cold winter, Spring has arrived early in the Iya Valley. Lots of cherry blossoms and oter flowers are currently bursting into the landscape, with vivid new green leaves also making themselves known. And as of April 1st all area locations have re-opened to their usual schedules (except Mt Tsurugi, which re-opens in mid-April).
Come and enjoy the Iya Spring!!

The Kazurabashi Vine Bridge has Re-Opened!
For the past 6 weeks this winter the Iya-no-Kazurabashi of Nishi-Iya has been undergoing its once-every-3-year rebuilding when all the vines are replaced.
On February 22, 2021 a re-opening ceremony was held to inaugurate the bridge. As is the tradition, a local family comprised of 3 generations of married couples were the first to honorarily cross in order to symbolically bless the new bridge.
For more information about the opening ceremony, check here:

Thank you to everyone who helped rebuild the beautiful bridge!
