台風後の森を行く。🌿

大雨の後の与那覇岳。
いつもの山道の沢も、水の音と勢いがまるで違います。

台風が過ぎれば、森はすぐ元通り——ではありません。
折れた枝、流れる水、傷んだ葉、そして新しく伸びる芽。
歩いてみると、台風をやり過ごした森の姿があちこちに残っています。

二つの大型台風、その後の与那覇岳の森。
Mt. Yonaha Forest After Two Major Typhoons

8月、やんばるを相次いで通過した台風13号と18号。

森の中にいたヒカゲヘゴも、強風で大きな葉をすべて失っていました。
それでも、てっぺんには次の葉になる芽が残っています。

葉は飛ばされても、森は生きている。

倒木、削られた山道、流れ出した小川、そして台風の直後に姿を現すキノコや小さな生き物たち。

台風の2日後、与那覇岳山道を歩きました。

Two major typhoons passed through Yanbaru in August.

This tree fern lost all of its large fronds in the strong winds.
But at the top, new growth is still alive.

The leaves are gone, but the forest lives on.

Fallen trees, eroded trails, flowing streams, fungi, and small creatures — I walked the Mt. Yonaha trail two days after the second typhoon.

森は元に戻るのではなく、少し形を変えながら、次の森になっていく。
The forest doesn’t simply return to what it was. It changes, and keeps growing.

やんばるの森で出会った、**ホントウアカヒゲ。**
国の天然記念物で、沖縄島北部に暮らす固有亜種です。

巨大台風13号の通過から5日目、8月12日。
嵐の猛威に耐え、凛と立っているかのように見えたオキナワウラジロガシの巨木。

しかし翌13日に訪れると、前日まで残っていた大きな幹の一部が、一晩で崩れ落ちていました。

長い年月を生きてきた巨木も、今この瞬間も変化し続けています。

自然の中では、昨日までそこにあったものが、今日も同じ姿であるとは限らない。
二日間の写真が、それを静かに語っていました。

August 12, five days after the powerful Typhoon No. 13 passed.
This giant Okinawa oak looked as if it had stood strong and survived the storm.

But when I returned the next day, a large part of the trunk had collapsed overnight.

Even an ancient giant is still changing, day by day.

In nature, what was there yesterday may not look the same today.
These two photos quietly tell that story.

旅人が、短い森の時間の中でヤンバルクイナに出会うには、少しの幸運が必要です。

コツは、「気配を消して、ゆっくり、ゆっくり。」
その後ろ姿は、まるで森で修行する僧侶のよう。

会えなくても、「欲が出て、気配を消せなかったかな」と笑う。
それもまた、やんばるの自然を味わう楽しさです。

To meet the elusive Okinawa rail in a short walk through the forest, you need a little luck.

“Move quietly. Slowly, slowly.”
From behind, you may look almost like a monk training in the forest.

And even if you don’t see one, the waiting and hoping are all part of enjoying Yanbaru. 🌿

巨大台風13号が通過した直後のやんばる。
林道には、たくさんの小枝や葉が落ちていました。

普段は見上げる森の頂上部（林冠）も、落ちた枝を手に取れば、葉やドングリを間近で観察できます。

台風の後だからこそ気づく、森のもう一つの姿です。

After Typhoon No. 13 passed through Yanbaru, the forest roads were covered with fallen branches and leaves.

They gave us a rare chance to see leaves, branches, and acorns that normally grow high up in the forest canopy.

**Even after a typhoon, the forest has something new to show us.**

🌺 真夏の名護を彩る、炎の花。

今日の朝、名護市21世紀の森公園を歩いていると、ホウオウボクが真っ赤な花を艶やかに咲かせていました。

青い空と深い緑に映えるその姿は、まるで南国の夏を祝福しているかのようです。

やんばるを歩く楽しみは、森だけではありません。
季節ごとに表情を変える花々との出会いも、この土地ならではの贈り物です。

During my morning walk at 21st Century Forest Park in Nago, I was greeted by the brilliant red blossoms of the Royal Poinciana in full bloom.

Against the blue Okinawan sky and lush green surroundings, the tree looked like it was celebrating the height of summer.

Yanbaru isn't only about its forests.
The changing flowers of each season are another beautiful reason to slow down and explore.

A New Yanbaru Tour for Okinawa’s Hot Summer

E Course: Yanbaru Scenic Journey with Minimal Walking

Okinawa is especially beautiful in summer, but walking for long periods in the intense heat can be challenging. YAAYA has therefore created a new scenic tour that allows guests to explore Northern Okinawa mainly by vehicle, with only short walks at selected stops.

Depending on the day’s conditions and your interests, the journey may include the Kayou Folded Strata, Gesashi Mangroves, Kouri Bridge, Mt. Otowa, Nagao Bridge, Benoki Dam, the Oku River, the sacred landscape of Asumui, and Cape Hedo.

Walking is generally limited to approximately 15 minutes at each location. This course is especially suitable for seniors, guests who are not confident about their physical fitness, and travelers who prefer scenic driving to a long hike.

Pickup may also be available from your accommodation in Nago or farther north. Please provide the name or address of your accommodation when contacting us.

Yanbaru Scenic Journey with Minimal Walking

夏の沖縄は美しい一方で、強い日差しと暑さの中を長時間歩くのは大変です。そこでYAAYAでは、歩く時間を少なくし、車窓からの景色と各地の名所をゆったり楽しめる、新しいやんばる周遊コースを設けました。

沖縄本島北部を車で巡り、嘉陽層の褶曲、慶佐次のマングローブ、古宇利大橋、乙羽岳、長尾橋、辺野喜ダム、奥川、アスムイの聖地、辺戸岬など、その日の状況やご希望に合わせてご案内します。

歩行は各スポットで約15分程度です。シニアの方、体力に自信のない方、長時間のハイキングよりも景色やドライブを楽しみたい方におすすめです。

また、名護市以北にご宿泊の場合は、宿泊施設までお迎えに伺うこともできます。 ご予約・お問い合わせの際に、宿泊施設名または住所をお知らせください。

歩く時間は少なく、やんばるの魅力はたっぷり。
