Haste makes waste—born in Japan? 🇯🇵🤔

The Seta River flows out of the southern part of Lake Biwa, the largest lake in Japan.

In order to enter Kyoto from Edo or the Tokaido area, it was necessary to cross the Seta River, either by crossing Lake Biwa or by detouring either north or south.
Seta no Karahashi Bridge in Shiga Pref has stood for over 1,400 years, serving as a vital crossi
ng for military and travelers alike.
And, as one of Japan's Three Great Ancient Bridges, it has witnessed countless battles and historical events.⚔️

During the Edo period, its stunning scenery made it a favorite subject in art and literature. 🤓

Even today, the bridge retains its traditional charm, blending beautifully with the surrounding mountains.😄👍

Fun fact: The Japanese proverb "急がば回れ" (Isogaba maware), meaning "Haste makes waste," is said to have originated from this very spot!
📍5 min walk from Karahashi-mae Station (Keihan Railway).

🔥 A Taste of Tradition in Hida-Takayama! 🍃🍽️

One of Hida-Takayama's must-try local dishes is Hoba Miso!

It is made by placing homemade sweet miso, vegetables such as green onions, and mushrooms on a large leaf from a magnolia and mixing the ingredients together before grilling.

The aroma of the leaf as it toasts? Absolutely mouthwatering! 🤤✨

Legend has it that this dish started with lumberjacks in Hida, who used magnolia leaves as makeshift plates to grill miso while working deep in the mountains.

In the region's harsh winters, people also warmed their food over the hearth using these leaves.

This dish is said to pair well with rice and is also an excellent accompaniment to sake!

Also pair it with Hida beef or grilled river fish for the ultimate flavor combo! 🥩🔥🐟

Today, you can still enjoy Hoba Miso in Takayama at restaurants, as well as at hotels or ryokan (traditional Japanese inns) for breakfast.

Why not try this smoky, savory delight?
