I, who is an apprentice, guided an international tourist from Canada. We visited Kofuki-ji Temple, Naramachi Nigiwai-no-ie House, and Kasuga Taisha Shrine. Although we could not pay a visit to Todai-ji Temple due to a sudden rain, we were able to help the tourist enjoy Nara in terms of both history and cuisine.⁡

Hi there! I guided a lovely family from Italy🇮🇹

They were mixed family of Italian and Spanish. The mother was a Spanish and the father was an Italian. They had some mixed culture as well, such as their lunch time and their Christmas. Generally, Spanish people have lunch around 14:00. So the family have late lunch compared to others. Also, they have 2 Christmas. In Italy, they celebrate the day on December 25th same as other countries, on the other hand, in Spain, they do on January 6th! That's why, the children receive presents for twice!

We visited Kohfukuji temple, Isuien garden, Todaiji temple and museum of Kasugataisha shrine.

In Isuien garden, the daughter showed me an amulet she bought at a shrine in Kyoto. It was an amulet for luck of money. But she was told that it was one for health😳 So she bought another one in Todaiji temple. She could get an amulet for health finally! 

At Todaiji temple, the children tried to go through the hole of pillar. I tried to take some photos but their try was too easy for them and they went through pretty quickly so I couldn't😂

We dropped by a convenience store. At the moment we arrived there, the children brought some stuffs and said "I want this!" to their father. The father told me convenience stores became his enemy🤣

Lastly, we visited the museum of Kasugataisha shrine. We wanted to see some Japanese musical instruments as a exhibition because the daughter plays flutes, but the exhibition might be for only limited time and we couldn't see it. Surprisingly, she has been playing flutes for 6 years! She must be a great musician in near future.

It was a great time for me to spend with them. I could share our cultures each other and I had some new discoveries about their countries.

I had the pleasure of guiding a wonderful couple from the US 🇺🇸

They had so much respect for each other, and they were truly a lovely couple🥰

We visited Todai-ji Temple, Kasuga Taisha Shrine, and Yakushi-ji Temple.

At Todai-ji, they were amazed by its long history and the enormous Buddhist statues. They looked closely at every detail and were fascinated by the incredible craftsmanship.

One moment that really stayed with me was when she pointed her camera at Komokuten. After looking at it through her phone for a moment, she quickly put it down and said,
“The picture doesn’t do it justice.”

For lunch, I took them to one of my favorite restaurants, where we had omurice and hamburg steak. Since they had already tried many authentic Japanese traditional dishes during their trip, I wanted to introduce them to another side of Japanese food culture — Yoshoku, dishes based on Western cuisine that have uniquely evolved in Japan and are well-loved by Japanese people.

After lunch, we visited Yakushi-ji Temple. They really enjoyed the beautiful Buddhist statues and the peaceful atmosphere there. In particular, they were fascinated by Yakushi Nyorai, the Buddha of healing, especially because they are both doctors.

Throughout the day, they paid such close attention to the intricate details of the architecture and Buddhist statues. I was impressed by how observant they were and by the thoughtful questions they asked.

What touched me most was how much respect they showed for Japanese culture, traditions, and customs throughout the day.

Hi guys! I guided a lovely woman from Italy 🇮🇹.
We went to Todai-ji Temple, Kasuga Taisha Shrine ⛩️, Yoshikien Garden, Himuro Shrine, and a toy museum.

First, we went to a toy museum. There were many traditional toys, and it seemed like she really enjoyed playing with them. 😊 We played a game called 16 Musashi!!! It was difficult, but so much fun!!

Next, we went to a restaurant and had curry and rice! 🍛 She likes spicy food, and she knew that Japanese curry is different from Indian curry!!! During lunch, we talked about the education systems in Japan and Italy. I was surprised to learn that high school is for five years! She also shared some stories from when she was a university student. ☺️

After lunch, we went to a mochi place, and she tried the famous mochi! :) It was her first time trying mochi, but she liked it! I’ve heard that some non-Japanese people find sweet red bean unique because it’s sweet even though it’s beans, so I asked her about it. She thought it was unique too. 😂

Next, we went to Todai-ji Temple! She is interested in many things about Japan and Japanese culture, so she asked me lots of questions!!! I’m so glad that we got to share many things about our countries! ✨️ When I talked about the stones 🪨 from different countries, she was impressed by them!!! She already knew that we wash our hands with water before entering temples and shrines! She also went through the pillar hole!! 😆 She told me something funny: she said Binzuru looks like Dante, who is a famous Italian writer. 🤭

After that, we went to Himuro Shrine. ⛩️ She was surprised to see the ice at the shrine! She tried a paper fortune and got a goshuin!!!

Then, we headed to Yoshikien Garden. 🌱 It was beautiful, and she was surprised by the size of the entrance to the tea room. 🍵

Lastly, we visited Kasuga Taisha Shrine. ⛩️ There were many lanterns, and a few stone lanterns were lit up! ✨️

We also went to a pharmacy to get some salt supplements and a cooling towel because I had given her some earlier and she loved them!!!! I hope these stuff will help her explore Japan!

It was my pleasure to show her around. 🥰 I hope she’ll enjoy the rest of her trip. 🍀

Hello! We had a pleasure to guide an Israeli man from Philippines🇮🇱🇵🇭
He is an Israeli but has been living in Philippines.
We met him at Todaiji temple by chance and guided him Todaiji temple and museum of Todaiji.

It seemed like he was so interested in the museum that he went back to see some exhibitions after he read their explanations. For example, a pair of swords which has Kanji(陰, means moon and 陽, means the sun) engraved on their surface. It must have been difficult to see them because the Kanji were like mirror texts but I believe he could see them.

Also, we saw some textbooks for Buddhism training. He asked me whether I could read them. However, I couldn't because even though the letters were so clear to read, the grammar was totally defferent from current one😫 I'm curious about their contents so I will try to understand them!

Although it was a quite short time, we spend the time with lots of fun✨

Hi everyone! I guided a friendly tourist from Italy🇮🇹
She is making a scrapbooking. She kept some tickets carefully and collected stamps everywhere!
They'll be cut out and put on her book. I saw her collection of stamps and found she had collected them at every station she got off!

We visited Isuien garden, Todaiji temple, Kasugataisha shrine, Naramachi area and Kohfukuji temple.

At Kasugataisha shrine, she told me she had known about Shintoism, a Japanese religion. She had a class to research religions in the world. Her team chose Shintoism and that's why she had known about it. Surprisingly, she even knew that we think everything has their spirits😳

For lunch, we went to Tofu restaurant near Naramachi area. She was a vegetarian and ordered vegetarian menu. I tried same one as her for the first time. The meal was so amazing that I couldn't imagine they were cooked without any animal products! Also, she told me she tried vegetarian Takoyaki in Osaka. It was very interesting and I'd like to try it someday😋

Lastly, we dropped by a souvenir shop. She bought some post cards and a pin badge. The badge had a design of license plate of car. The number was 710 and this is the year when Japanese capital was moved to Nara from Kyoto! I'm sure that these souvenirs will be great ones✨

I, who is an apprentice, guided eight international tourists from Taiwan. We visited Naramachi Nigiwai-no-ie House, Todaiji Temple, and Yoshikien Garden. It was a great chance for me to make use of Chinese language and understand Taiwanese culture!⁡

Hello! We had a warm family from the Philippines 🇵🇭✨

We visited many places including the Naramachi Area, Naramachi Museum, Nigiwai no Ie, Kofukuji Temple, Nara Park, Todaiji Temple, and some shops!

When I was standing at the station to see if anyone wanted my tour, a mother and her daughter spoke to me! They said that they often travel together with different family members, and this time, it was the two of them visiting Japan. We enjoyed eating fried shrimp, beef, and mochi for lunch.

After that, we went to the Naramachi Museum and Nigiwai no Ie in the Naramachi Area. Both are my favorite spots, but it was my first time taking visitors to the Naramachi Museum during the tour. I was so happy that they asked me to enter, showing their interest in Naramachi culture, especially a monkey charm called migawarizaru or negaizaru. Traditionally, people in the Naramachi Area hung these monkey dolls at the front door of their houses so that the monkeys would take the misfortune on themselves and grant their wishes 🏠🐒💖 The museum staff wrote some beautiful kanji such as ‘成就 (success)’ and ‘安穏 (peace of mind)’ on the back of the monkey dolls 😌✨ Also, he kindly gave us origami as souvenirs! I wish everyone good luck and happiness 💖

Next, we walked to Nara Park. They liked the deer at first, but after being chased by many deer, they became a bit traumatized 😂 The deer approached us even while we were sitting down to rest... It was like a horror movie! 😨😂

We took a taxi back to the station to go shopping, and the driver taught me a Tagalog word that would make most Filipinos laugh. As he said, when he shared it with the family, they laughed. It was "Walang pera?" meaning "Don't you have any money?" 😂

On that day, we took a lot of pictures, bought many souvenirs, and had a wonderful time! We were like a family during the tour 🥹🫂💖 I already miss them, but I hope they stay healthy, enjoy the rest of their trip, and see each other again in the future! Salamat po!⁡

Ciao! We had a lovely couple from Italy 🇮🇹✨
We visited Kasugataisha Shrine, Todaiji Temple, and the Naramachi Area.

They were really nice and sweet! They learned about Japan by reading a guidebook and kindly said thank you in Japanese 🥹✨ The deer also seemed to like their politeness and the gentle way they patted them, so they kept walking alongside them 🥰 They love animals and nature, so I was glad to guide them in Nara, a place with many deer and natural beauty. Their reactions were really sweet and cute throughout the tour! 🥹💞

Both of them were majoring in programming at school and now are doing similar jobs! She came to Japan to give a presentation about her work at a Japanese university. She creates rescue robots designed for use in places where earthquakes happen. How nice she is! I'm interested in disaster response, so I wanted to see her presentation!

For lunch, we went to a restaurant where we could try various Japanese pickles! They were really open to trying a lot! Later they said that the restaurant and the Naramachi area are not ‘fake’ places, created for local people, not just for tourists. I prefer lively places like those spots and strongly agreed with them. I was so happy that they also liked my favorite 'real' places and enjoyed them! 🥰

Although the climate was terrible, we had a wonderful time! Thank you so much for coming to Nara! Grazie mille ✨⁡⁡

Hello! I guided a tourist from India who lives in Hamamatsu and speaks Japanese well🇮🇳

This time, we visited Todai-ji Temple, Yoshikien, Nigatsudo, and Kasuga Taisha Shrine. Even though it was very hot , we had such an energetic and powerful day of sightseeing☀️ At Todai-ji, they even try to going through the hole of pillar. Along the way, they kept checking on me, saying, “Yuina-san wa Tukaretenai?” Their kindness made me forget the heat and tiredness!

When I mentioned, “If I go to India, I want to eat Indian curry,” they told me so much about Indian food and culture. I learned that people in India eat Indian curry almost every day, that chapati is just as common as naan, and all about Indian sweets like “gulab jamun” and street food like “pani puri”. They even shared four different kinds of Indian snacks they had brought with them, and we enjoyed them together. We talked about Indian food so that I had Indian curry on the next day! 😂

💌🪽 Thank you so much for telling me all about India! I’d also love to visit the Indian restaurant you run in Hamamatsu someday! And please come back to Nara again! 🎶
