Nagoya, Heartland of the Samurai Why
Nagoya is “Heartland of tha Samurai”? Aichi Prefecture (including Nagoya City) is the mecca of Samurai!

Samurai culture’s origins are uniquely concentrated in this area! Aichi is rich in cultural heritage, as the birthplace of all three of Japan's greatest heroes –
Oda Nobunaga, Toyotomi Hideoyishi, and Tokugawa Ieyasu. Every Japanese, young or old, is familiar with these three warlords who successfully unified Japan and began the Sh**unate era.

【The Business Mind of Hideyoshi Toyotomi 3】

At the Seige of Kanegasaki, in 1570, Nobunaga and Hideyoshi fell into a trap set by the armies of Azai and Asakura, and Hideyoshi allowed Nobunaga to escape near certain death by taking his place at the head of the army. Again, after the battles of Komaki and Nagakute, where his naval commander Kiku Yosh*taka retreated with great losses after meeting the army of Tokugawa Ieyasu, Hideyoshi responded to his apology for defeat by telling him his return was in itself a fine exploit, and decorated him for it. And Nobunaga’s assassination at the hands of his own servant had a great impact on Hideyoshi, who came to believe that the happiness of all was the most important concern of any leader. These same considerations can be applied to modern business, and the way it treats those both outside and within the company.

【The Business Mind of Hideyoshi Toyotomi 2】

Hideyoshi, with his ability to win over the hearts of people, was quite the opposite of his predecessor, Oda Nobunaga, and some would argue that this is why he was successful in assuming the leadership of Japan. In any organization, whether a business, a religion or a project team, some kind of change will occur before the third generation is reached. Oftentimes, to insure the survival of a group, new leadership will act in a way that is contrary to the policies of the first generation. This was the case with Hideyoshi.

【The Business Mind of Hideyoshi Toyotomi 1】

What has modern business borrowed from the thinking of Toyotomi Hideyoshi, the man who climbed to the pinnacle of Japanese power? Above all, it is the need to win the hearts of the public. This ability to create good relationships, and maintain them, is something Hideyoshi probably learned growing up as a farmer’s son. And as he had no powerful clan to support him in his rise to power, he learned to make use of men of excellence along the way. From a young age he possessed this ability to identify talent.
