Some of the Freeplus team went out for hiking. Despite the hike name meaning “pass in the dark,” (暗がり峠） our hike along this historic route from Osaka to Nara was full of light and charm. This stone-paved trail has been used since the 8th century to connect the two prefectures. We wandered past terraced rice paddies, spring flowers, and even stumbled on cozy cafes.

In a quiet Oita town, a family distillery defies time. Crafting rare, all-handmade barley shochu with deep roots. They produce only small batches of barley shochu using traditional methods such as muro buta trays, wooden barrels, and a custom distiller, crafting each batch by hand with care and precision.
