Fuji matsuri,, April 19 - 26
At Kumano Kaido Shindachi-juku, you can see something very special.
This is not a public park or a famous temple.
This wisteria is grown in a private home, and it has been carefully taken care of by the same family for generations.
The wisteria here is called “Noda Fuji.”
It is one of the most traditional types of wisteria in Japan, known for its long, elegant flowers.
This single tree produces around 40,000 clusters of flowers every year.
In Japan, wisteria has been loved for centuries and often appears in traditional art, kimono, and even family crests.
It symbolizes longevity, elegance, and connection.
This place used to be a post town along the historic Kumano Kaido,
where travelers walked for days on their pilgrimage to sacred shrines.
Imagine people in the past walking this road and resting in this town.
