【「鳥散歩の会」7月】
こんにちは、ガイドのスージーです☺
昨日お客さんと知恩院に行ってきました。
何度も行ってるのに初めて気がつくことはよくあること。
で、方丈庭園に行ったんだけどね、意外と、いやいや本当に意外だったけど、野鳥をいっぱい発見！
夏なんだけどねえ…
で思いました。
7月の「鳥散歩の会」は知恩院にしようかと！！
ただし、方丈庭園拝観料400円が参加料と別途に必要です。

参加費：2,000円＋方丈庭園拝観料400円
支払い方法：現地払い。現金のみ。
定員：5名さま（1名さまより催行）
申し込み期間：2026年7月4日中
開催日：2026年7月6日（月）
集合時間：9:30（観光客の少ない時間帯）
集合場所：知恩院三門前の階段下あたり
雨天決行（雨降ったら、それなりにツアーガイドやります）
持ち物：双眼鏡、カメラ、野帳図鑑、飲水など
終了時間：11:30くらいを予定しています（大体2時間のツアー）。

あんまり野鳥がいなくても、それはそれでツアーガイドやります。

【Ofuku Ume Plum】
Hello! I'm your guide, Susie.
Yesterday, I went to Kitano Tenmangu Shrine in Kyoto with my guests from the USA.
And I finally bought the "Ofuku Ume Plum" that I'd been curious about for a while (though it's not really that big of a deal).
This is a story behind Ofuku Ume.

The plums that ripen on the grounds of Kitano Tenmangu Shrine, overflowing with the blessings of Tenjin-sama (Known as "Sugawara no Michizane"), are made into pickled plums here.

From December 13th, when preparations for the New Year's celebrations begin, these pickled plums are sold to worshippers.
When eating the celebratory meal (known as "Osechi") on January 1st, these pickled plums are put in the cup with hot water and the water is drunk with prayers for protection from evil spirits and for a year of happiness.

The origin dates back to when Emperor Murakami (62nd Emperor, 926-967) contracted an epidemic, and he recovered immediately after drinking this hot water infused with these plums.
The Emperor then called this plum tea "Ofuku 王服" (King's Medicine). It is said that he recommended it to his people, saying, "If my people drink this Ofuku every New Year, all of them will be happy and live long lives. Now, drink it!"

Later, "Ofuku 王服" (King's Medicine) became "Ofuku, 大福" (Great Fortune).

The fact that the wrapping paper says "warding off disease, 疫病退散" is strangely convincing. It seems like it would be quite effective (lol). There are also versions for students, such as "praying for success in exams, 合格祈願" and "warding off disaster, 災難退散."

I tried it, and it's super sour! It seems like it would be very effective for summer fatigue.

【大福梅】
こんにちは😃ガイドのスージーです。
昨日お客さんと一緒に京都の北野天満宮へ行って来ました。
そして前から気になっていた「大福梅」をついに買いました(って言うほど大げさなもんじゃないですが)。

大福梅にはこんなエピソードがあります。

天神様（菅原道真）のご利益が溢れている北野天満宮の境内で実った梅の実は、ここで梅干しになります。
新年のお祝いの準備を始める12月13日からその梅干しを参拝者に買っていただきます。
1月1日のお祝いの料理を食べる時、白湯の中にこの梅干しを入れてそのお湯を飲みます。
そして、1年の間、邪気を払い、幸せに過ごせるよう祈ります。
起源は、村上天皇(第62代天皇。926年〜967年)が流行病にかかってしまった時、この梅のお湯を飲むと立ち所に回復したことに始まります。
そして天皇はこの梅の湯を「王服（王様の薬）」と呼びました。
そして「毎年お正月にこの王服を飲めば、国民は皆幸せになり長寿できる、さあ飲みなさい」と勧めたとされています。
のち王服は大福（大きな福をもたらす）となりました。

包み紙に「疫病退散」と書かれているのが妙に説得力があります。なんだかよく効きそう(笑)
他に学生向けに「合格祈願」とか、「災難退散」とかもあります。

食べて見たけどめっちゃスッパイ!夏バテによく効きそうです。

Hi 😊 I'm Suzie, "country experience" tour guide.
was rice planting (田植え) day in the Sasara area of ​​Yoshino, Nara Prefecture.
We planted rice in a field we borrowed from a local farmer.
Before planting, we prepared the field by plowing a rice field ( 田起こし), ridge making (畔作り), and puddling (代かき). Rice planting takes place after the paddy preparation.
We planted the rice seedlings one by one by hand.

The field was muddy, so we had to be careful not to slip and fall!
Over 50 participants got covered in mud, but they were all having a great time planting rice.
It's one of the most enjoyable works in the rice field, along with harvesting.

The lunch after planting was absolutely delicious! We all lined up along the field path and enjoyed our meal together. 😊😃ガイドのスージーです。
さて、今日は吉野の笹羅地区での田植えの日でした。
農家さんからお借りしている田んぼで田植えします。
田植えの前には準備として、田起こし、畔づくり、代かきがあって、田植えはその代かきの後です。
稲の苗を1つづつ手で植えていきます。
田んぼはぬかるんでいるので、泥に足を取られてこけないようにね!
50人超の参加者さんが泥だらけになって、でもワイワイ大騒ぎしながら田植えしました。
田んぼ作業の中で、稲刈りと共に楽しい作業です。

田植えの後のお弁当はこの上なく美味しい!みんなであぜ道に並んで、美味しくいただきました😊

先日直島に行って来ました。
直島行のフェリーは宇野港から出発するのですが、その宇野港に「宇野のチヌ」がいる事を知ってますか?
岸壁近くに２匹います。
よお〜っく見ると、なんとこれがゴミで出来ています。
ゴミを上手に配置してサカナを作ってるんですよ。
これぞアート!と思っちゃいました。

将来に向けて「アートしない直島ツアー」を考え中。

【Airbnb Cat Tour, Osaka】
Yesterday was an Airbnb cat tour. The guests were a pair from the Netherlands and France. Both of them love cats. The guest from France was wearing a shirt covered in cats. It was so cute!

Now, all the cats on the cat tour are stray cats, so they're very cautious to human, because they are born to be a street cat from the beginning. So they don't come close easily.

We offered them cat food, and while they showed interest, they were scared and wouldn't come closer to human. If we put it on the ground and moved away, they would cautiously come over to eat.

Me: "They're not definitely friendly to strangers. But maybe cats can distinguish faces. Like Japanese and Westerners."
Guest: "That might be true. Because when we visited to a cat cafe, the cats always come to the Japanese customers, but they would not come to us. Maybe they can distinguish faces. And also language. They react to Japanese language, but not to our language."

I see! That makes sense.

They might be distinguishing between "familiar people" and "unfamiliar people."

In the case of dogs, they have a good sense of smell, so apparently they can distinguish between the hormone secretions of dog lovers and those who aren't. In other words, dog lovers get excited when they see a dog, and that excitement is reflected in their hormone secretion. People who dislike dogs don't show much change in hormone levels, so the dog can judge, "This person doesn't like me," and stays away.

In my case, most dogs walking with their owners show interest in me and come me on their own. I'm sure I'm giving a "dogs are cute" aura at those times.

【Airbnbの猫ツアー大阪】
昨日はエアビーの猫ツアーでした。
お客さんは、オランダからとフランスからのペア。
2人とも猫大好き。
フランスからのゲストは、猫がびっしり詰まったシャツを着てました。
それがめっちゃ可愛い！

さて、猫ツアーの猫は全員野良猫なので、ちょっとニンゲンを警戒します。
なかなか寄ってきてくれない。
キャットフードあげるんだけど、興味は示すものの、怖いのか近寄らない。
地面に置いて離れると、恐る恐る食べに来る。

私「やっぱり見知らぬ人は警戒するね。でもひょっとしたら猫は顔を区別しているかもしれない。日本人と西洋人」
お客さん「それはあるかも。だって、キャットカフェに行ったら、日本人のお客さんには猫が寄ってくるけど、私たちには猫が来ないの。多分顔を見分けているかも。それと言葉ね。日本語には反応するけど、私たちの言葉には反応しないの」

なるほど！さもありなん。
「見慣れた人」と「見慣れない人」を区別してるのかもしれないね。
犬の場合は、鼻がいいから、犬好きの人とそうで無い人のホルモン分泌を嗅ぎ分けるらしいね。
つまり犬好きは、犬を見るとテンション上がるのがホルモン分泌に出るらしい。
犬が嫌いな人は、その量があまり変化しないから、犬は「この人ボクが嫌いなんだ」と判断して近寄らない、そうな。
私の場合は、大抵の飼い主と散歩中の犬が、私に興味を示して勝手に近寄ってくる。
確かにその時、私は「犬可愛い」のオーラ出してるわ。

Today, I visited Shoshazan Engyou-ji Temple, City of Himeji, Hyogo Prefecture.

Shoshazan Enkyou-ji Temple
This temple was founded in 966 by the Monk Shoku. It is famous as a pilgrimage temple. Monk Shoku was born in 910 into the Tachibana family, a noble family in Kyoto. From the age of 10, he loved Buddhism and dreamed of becoming a monk. After diligently studying the sutra and practicing asceticism, he became a monk at the age of 36. He then traveled throughout Japan looking for a place to build a temple.
When he entered Mount Shosha, where he felt a mysterious power, a white-haired old man appeared before him.
"This mountain is called Mount Shosha. Those who enter this mountain will become a Buddhist monk, abandon the desires and let go, and you will get a pure heart," the old man said.

He then pointed to three sacred places on the mountaintop: The Great Lecture Hall, the Mani Hall, and Mount Hakusan.
Monk Shoku realized that this white-haired old man was an incarnation of a Bodhisattva. He continued his daily practices and dedicated himself to the salvation of people until his death at the age of 98.
Monk Shoku was a person like Bodhisattva, the god of marcy. Mount Shosha is a mountain filled with the spirit of Monk Shoku.

今日は姫路市にある「書寫山圓教寺」に行って来ました。

書寫山圓教寺は966年に性空上人が開いたお寺です。
巡礼のお寺として有名です。
性空上人は、京都の貴族・橘家に910年に生まれました。
10歳の頃から仏教が大好きで、出家して僧侶になるのが夢でした。
一所懸命教を読み修行に励んだのち36歳で僧侶になりました。
そしてお寺を建てる場所を探して全国を回りました。
そして不思議な力を感じるこの書写山に入ると白髪の老人が彼の目の前に現れました。
「この山は書写山という。山に入る者は仏門に入り、人間の持つ欲望や執着の心を捨て、清らかな心になる」
と言いました。
そして山の頂上に三つの神聖な場所を示しました。
大講堂、摩尼堂、そして白山です。
この白髪の老人こそが菩薩の化身だと性空上人は悟りました。
そして98歳で亡くなるまで毎日修行をし、また人々の救済にも力を入れました。
性空上人はまるで菩薩の慈悲の心そのままのような人でした。
書写山はこの性空上人の心に満たされた山なのです
