🍧 Taste a Japanese Summer at Kokyuan ☀️🎐

Summer in Japan can certainly get hot... but thankfully, Japan has perfected some pretty delicious ways of cooling down! ☀️💦

One of the most beloved is kakigori — finely shaved ice covered with delicious syrups and toppings. 🍧✨

Kakigori has been enjoyed in Japan in various forms for centuries, and today it remains one of those treats that just feels inseparable from Japanese summer. Whether you're visiting a summer festival 🎆, exploring a traditional neighbourhood 🏮, or simply escaping the afternoon heat, spotting that familiar 氷 sign outside a shop is always tempting!

At Kokyuan in Sakai City, you can cool down with their original kakigori, made using purified water to create beautifully delicate shaved ice. ❄️🍓

And there's plenty more for anyone with a sweet tooth!

The shop is particularly known for its popular castella sponge cake 🍰, alongside a variety of traditional Japanese sweets that make it a great little stop for discovering Japan's sweeter side. 🍵✨

🤍 A Beach Made of Marble?🌊✨

When people think of beaches, they usually imagine golden sand... but Sennan Marble Beach offers something completely different. 🤍

🌌 Watch the Okawa River Transform into a Glowing Milky Way ✨

For one magical evening each year, one of Osaka's most beautiful rivers is transformed into a breathtaking river of light. 💙

As part of the Reiwa Osaka Legend of the Milky Way, thousands of glowing blue "Inori-boshi" (Prayer Stars) are released onto the surface of the Okawa River, creating the illusion that the Milky Way itself has descended from the night sky. 🌌✨ Visitors can even dedicate their own wishes before the glowing spheres are set afloat, making the event a beautiful blend of Japanese tradition and modern art.

Held on Tanabata (the Star Festival), the event celebrates the famous Japanese legend of two lovers who are allowed to meet just once a year across the Milky Way. As the sun sets and the city lights begin to sparkle, the glowing river creates one of the most unforgettable sights of the Osaka summer. 💫🎋

Its three famous faces each represent a different point in time: the Golden Face at the top symbolises the future, the Face of the Sun on the front represents the present, and the Black Sun on the back reflects the past.
