A day of Japanese w**e in Yokohama — with Hokkaido on my mind. 🍷

Tasting Pinot Noir from Sorachi and Niki was a reminder of just how much there is still to discover in Japan’s w**e regions.

What interests me most isn’t only the w**e itself, but the places behind the bottle — the landscapes, producers, food, and the possibility of experiencing them as part of a journey.

Hokkaido is definitely going on my research list. 🇯🇵

Did you know w**e is produced in 45 out of Japan’s 47 prefectures?
With nearly 500 craft w**eries across the country, Japan’s domestic w**e scene is booming—yet only 5 regions hold strict Geographical Indication (GI) status.
From Yamanashi’s crisp Koshu to bold reds from Nagano and Kyushu, this is the side of Japan’s food and drink culture most travelers completely miss.

I’ve always believed that w**e can tell you something about a place—its climate, food, culture and people.

So this month in Japan, I’m looking at the country through a different lens: w**e.

From Tokyo’s growing w**e scene to Yamanashi, Nagano and eventually Hokkaido, I’m curious about the people, places and stories behind 日本ワイン.

With my WSET Level 3 foundation and W**e Scholar Guild studies, I’m returning to serious w**e study and adding Japan to the map.

And I’m especially interested in what happens when w**e becomes part of the journey—not simply something in the glass.

This is just the beginning. 🍷🇯🇵

Would you want to explore Japan through w**e.

TOKYO is home to hundreds of contemporary art galleries, tucked into high-rise complexes, quiet side streets, and converted waterfront warehouses.

Today we’re exploring two distinct hubs: the sleek, architectural spaces of Azabudai Hills (home to mega-galleries like Pace and Azabudai Hills Gallery) and the sprawling industrial warehouses of Tennozu Isle (Terrada Art Complex).

If you’re mapping out a full Tokyo gallery crawl, here is how the city breaks down:

- Ginza / Nihonbashi | Fine Art & Blue-Chip
Legacy commercial spaces, prestigious private galleries, and luxury house exhibitions.
- Roppongi / Akasaka | Contemporary & Experimental
The museum core, surrounded by modern commercial spaces and international heavyweights in gallery complexes like Piramide.
- Shibuya / Harajuku / Aoyama | Pop Culture, Street & Design
Cutting-edge street art, fashion crossovers, subculture spaces, and lifestyle-driven design studios.
- Kiyosumi-Shirakawa / Tennozu Isle | Avant-Garde & Large-Scale Spaces
Repurposed industrial warehouses and canal-side compounds hosting emerging Asian artists, large installations, and contemporary incubators.

Save this for your next Tokyo trip. Which scene are you visiting first?

It feels like a heavy, comforting, warm blanket—but the detox benefits are next-level. It’s my absolute favorite way to reset after long-haul flights.

Despite all the hype, Hakone never loses its magic.
Just 90 minutes from Tokyo’s chaos, you’re greeted by mountain mist, quiet forests, and pure stillness.
While spending a night or two is the ultimate reset, day-use ryokan packages are an incredible alternative—giving you private hot spring baths paired with beautifully crafted bento lunches without the overnight commitment.

The secret to loving Tokyo? Balance.

While everyone gathers at the famous hotspots, the true charm of this city lives in its quiet side streets, hidden shrines, and historic neighborhoods.
Take your time, wander slow, and soak in the history and culture at your own pace.

I’ve visited Kamakura more than 10 times, yet it never fails to show me something new. It’s an ancient city with a vibrant, youthful spirit that always makes you feel welcome. ⛩️✨

💡 Pro Tip: Summer in Japan is full of energy, but the heat can be intense! Plan your trip for spring or fall for the best experience. 🌸🍁
