Once a year, people gather to catch soybeans thrown from above — a joyful ritual to let go of bad luck and invite good fortune.

Setsubun is a Japanese tradition held in early February.

People throw roasted soybeans while chanting “Oni wa soto, fuku wa uchi” — “Out with bad luck, in with good fortune.”
