🏔️ Gassan Pair Lift 🏂
The Gassan Pair Lift can also be used when hiking Mt. Gassan.
Located in the center of Yamagata Prefecture, Mt. Gassan stands at an elevation of 1,984 meters.
Together with the Asahi Mountain Range and the Iide Mountain Range, it is designated as part of Bandai-Asahi National Park.
One of Japan’s 100 Famous Mountains, Mt. Gassan is the main peak of the Three Sacred Mountains of Dewa and has long been revered as a sacred mountain.
At the summit, Gassan Shrine enshrines Tsukiyomi-no-Mikoto, the deity of the moon.
The famous haiku poet Matsuo Bashō, from The Narrow Road to the Deep North, also climbed Mt. Gassan and wrote:
“Cloud peaks rise and fall — the mountain of the moon.”
With more than 350 varieties of alpine plants blooming after the snow melts, and stunning autumn foliage in the fall, Mt. Gassan offers breathtaking trekking experiences throughout the seasons.
