夏鳥の先陣を切ってオオルリが舞い、林床ではヒメイチゲが静かに開花。森の奥には珍しいジュウジギツネ。そして雪解けの笹原を歩くヒグマ。足元から遠くの景色まで、どこを見ても命が動いていますね。

Summer begins with the arrival of Blue-and-white Flycatchers,while Anemone debilis quietly blooms on the forest floor.Deep in the woods, a rare "Cross Fox" appears,and Brown Bears roam across the snowmelt bamboo grass fields.From the ground at our feet to the distant landscape, life is moving everywhere.

National Highway 334 (Shiretoko Pass) is scheduled to reopen at 9:30 AM on April 28.While spring has arrived at the foot of the mountain, temperatures remain low at the pass (738m) with a risk of icy roads.The road will be closed overnight from evening to morning. シーズンが終わり、静かな知床です。マップス彗星は個人的には確認できませんでしたが、少しの散歩でも良い景色に出会えました。

Shiretoko is quiet after the season.I personally could not observe Comet MAPS,but even a short walk offered beautiful scenery.

3月らしい、立派な流氷が海を埋め尽くしていました。今夜からは南風の予報。氷が岸を離れる前の、貴重な見納めになるかもしれません。流氷が運んできた栄養で、プランクトンが爆発的に増える季節。今日は豊かな海を象徴するように、たくさんのクラゲたちがゆらゆらと漂っていました。

Impressive drift ice, truly typical of late March.With the south wind tonight, it may be our last chance to see them.Nutrients from the ice bring a massive plankton bloom.Many jellyfish were drifting today, celebrating Shiretoko’s rich sea.
