Wasabi Guiding Service National Licensed Guide based in Shizuoka Atami is conveniently located at the foot of the Hakone mountains, and the base of the Izu Peninsula.

I am Fumie, a National Government Licensed Guide Interpreter in Atami, Shizuoka, only 50 minutes away from Tokyo by Shinkansen trains. It is also rather close to Mt. Fuji, central Shizuoka and Kamakura. I am excited to show you around beautiful places that I love. I grew up in Yokohama, spent 1 year as a high school exchange student in Allentown, PA in the US, went to college and lived/worked in T

okyo for about 10 years before coming to this beautiful onsen resort. After becoming a guide, I met with guests from various backgrounds, and I feel grateful once again, for my experience to be exposed to different cultures in my youth. Let’s have a good time together!

Museum of Natural and Environmental History in Shizuoka is a fun place not only for kids but for grown-ups. It is a renovated old school building.

Good morning, Mt. Fuji! She is beautiful with the snow white make-up. She was shrouded in the clouds later.
Fish market in Yaizu called Osakana Center is a fun place to enjoy sea food even for tourists. There are some casual restaurants. You can get some drinks and food and enjoy them at eating spaces here and there.
Coast line at Mochimune was quite nice, too.

Visiting eastern Aichi is a special treat at this time because you can enjoy somewhat like spring in January.
Cape Irago was windy and the waves were rough. Toyokawa Inari is like an amusement park of olden times. Messengers of Inari deity, a loooot of foxes, welcome you.
I had pufferfish for dinner, but forgot to take photos. This very special delicacy requires cookig by licensed chefs, because some parts of the fish are deadly poisonous.

I have long wanted to see this piece, pine woods by Hasegawa Tohaku. It is brought to the exhibition hall only in January, because pine is an auspicious tree (always green) suited to new year festivity.
It sure was a mysterious painting. Looks very rough from a close range and somehow very foggy and murky when you step back.

A hiking trail on the west side of Lake Ashi is pleasant and peaceful. We walked from Togendai to Hakonemachi, and took a boat ride back. There are no significant ups and downs, but the distance is probably around 10 km. We spent about 4 hours including lunch/tea breaks.
There is Fukara water tunnel on the way. It is about 350 yrs old, but it still irrigates lake water to farm land in the west of Hakone.

Hakone in winter!
Enjoyed this gorgeous view and hiked the historical Tokaido road partially with my guest. Moss garden at Hakone Museum was covered with pampas grass for protection from the frost, and I thought it was beautiful.
