When visiting temples in Koyasan, particularly Kongobuji Temple and Kobo Daishi Mausoleum:
• Dress modestly (no revealing clothing, short skirts, or shorts)
• Bring a jacket if shoulders/back are exposed
• Formal attire is recommended for services
• Yukata are for indoor use only (not for temples or sacred sites)

Especially at Okunoin and Danjo Garan, please respect the spiritual atmosphere.

【 ～ Recognizing Joint World Pilgrimage ～ 】

Congratulations to these Australians, American, and supporters, for having completed the Kumano Kodo Nakahechi, and for becoming Dual Pilgrims.

Dual Pilgrim recognizes the sister relationship between the only two long pilgrimage routes that are UNESCO World Heritage Cultural Assets, the Camino de Santiago in Spain and the Kumano Kodo in Japan, and awards those who have completed both with an official certificate.

Those that complete their Dual Pilgrim in Hongu, Japan, also have a chance to participate in a special drumming ceremony at Kumano Hongu Taisha.

AsahiHouse is a guesthouse located near Kii-Katsuura Station, close to the “Asahi” bus stop, making it an ideal base for walking the Kumano Kodo and visiting Nachi Taisha Shrine and Seiganto-ji Temple. There are two Western-style guest rooms and the house is features shared living area and kitchen space. Restaurants, hot springs, and supermarkets are all within walking distance, making a stay easy and convenient. This property uses a self check-in system.

Kumano Nakahechi Enjoyment Inn Chrisgawa is a private guesthouse where you can find the peace and space you need to connect with the ancient trail.Takijiri-oji is just 4 minutes away by car, and Takahara is 8 minutes—both ideal starting points for your day's walk. Shuttle service is available. There are five guest rooms convenient for solo travelers, families or groups. Only a "no meals" plan is available, but a complimentary breakfast is provided. A supermarket is nearby, and there is fully-equipped free-use kitchen. It's a reasonable, convenient, comfortable stay for Kumano Kodo hikers.

Visitors from the U.S., Puerto Rico, Australia, and Canada stepped into a centuries-old tradition — carrying the mikoshi, connecting with locals, and becoming part of something much bigger than a trip.

Unexpected moments made it even more meaningful.

A quiet, guided visit to Kumano Hongu Taisha offered a deeper connection to the sacred landscape and its living traditions.
