(Congratulations on completing your journey!)

26 in April 2026! Twenty six pilgrims made it to all 88 temples and closed the loop in April. Spring brings so many of you to Shikoku, and it’s been a real pleasure to meet all of you and hear about your trip. Looking forward to meeting more of you in May!

To all of the April 2026 finishers: Christopher, David, Hidemi, Stephen, Judy, Dick, Elis, Will, Michele, Alexander, Maximilian, Renee, Fabien, Dominique, Urban, Giovanni, Irene, Parael(?), Mdute(?), Helen, Valentin, Kara, Lay Khung, Pasal, Evelyne, and Hideko…

…from the US, Germany, Japan, Canada, the Netherlands, Wales, Australia, Denmark, Italy, France, and Malaysia…

and to everyone who finished walking the path with Kobo Daishi…

結願おめでとうございます! (Kechigan omedetou gozaimasu!)

Feel free to visit our Center for maps, bus schedules, route advice, and assistance with lodging reservations for the Tokushima area (and tourist information, of course). Stop by again when you complete your journey for this unofficial certificate and information on how to get to Osaka, Kansai Airport, Mt. Koya, and beyond.

“Ohenro First Steps” English Orientation is available most days until the end of May (reservations are recommended, but walk-ins are possible), and by advance reservation only throughout the summer. Check out our other post for information and reservation info.

**Some pilgrims didn’t want their photos posted on social media. That’s totally fine… tell us when we take your photo and we can send it to you privately by e-mail or other means. We’d still like to acknowledge your wonderful achievement, so allow us to include your name (first name only) in this list.

(Congratulations on completing your journey!)

Oh my, are we already in April 2026!?!? The spring Henro season started earlier than expected (people were starting from mid-late February), and it’s been a steady stream of both pilgrims and tourists looking to explore Shikoku at a leisurely pace. We’ve been quite busy helping everyone (you sure ask a lot of questions! LOL), but it’s been wonderful meeting all of you.

To all of the January 2026 finishers: In-Seob, Dale, and Peter…

and to all the March 2026 finishers: Lester, Carole, Daniela, Holger, David, Gita, Marion, Vanessa, Setsuko, Deguen, Kun Shan, Bryan, Christine, and Kristina…

…from South Korea, Australia, USA, Austria, Italy, Germany, Scotland, France, Taiwan, and Canada…

and to everyone who finished walking the path with Kobo Daishi…

Kechigan Photos - November 2025
(Congratulations on completing your journey!)

As usual, fall is a busy season for pilgrims, and it was nice to see so many of you come back and visit the Tokushima Welcome Center after finishing. We’ve been explaining how to get to Mt. Koya quite a bit in the last few weeks (there’s a cheap train/ferry combo ticket, so stop by and we’ll show you with a handy map and timetable).

Although fall has been quite mild, things will chilling down considerably after Christmas, so for those of you out on the path, please check the weather forecast and talk to the locals every day, since conditions can change suddenly.

To all of the November finishers: Jan, Stacey, Pao Chu, Li Yu, Stefanie, Marc, Annie, Nancy, David, Joohyun, Oliver, Paola, Jon-Paul, Dawn, Mario, Alwin, Hanspeter, Sibylle, Michiaki, Brigitte, Balthasar, and Evert…
…from Belgium, Australia, Taiwan, Switzerland, The Netherlands, Canada, South Korea, Germany, Italy, Japan, and France…

and to everyone who finished walking the path with Kobo Daishi…

Kechigan Photos - September / October 2025
(Congratulations on completing your journey!)

This may have been one of the busiest seasons ever for the Tokushima Welcome Center. Not only did we have a significant increase in Ohenro stopping by for information and assistance, but we also had an increase in regular inbound tourists making a trip around Shikoku or coming to Tokushima in between their art island visits for the Setouchi Triennale.

Although we had only one finisher in September (brave soul who survived the heat), many people finished in October, early in the fall season. The Kechigan rush is continuing through November, and I’ll be curious to see how many December finishers we have this year.

To all of you who made it through the lingering heat…
September finisher: Laurent…
And October finishers: April, Rubina, Alfred, Michael, Jenn, Mitch, Troy, Riley, Uwe, Pranav, Zhi Hong, Lisi, Eddie, Maria (who used to teach at my high school in Hawai’i!), Regula, Markos, Christian, Stella, Denis, Beatrice, and Edmond…
…from France, USA, Germany, Australia, Canada, India, Taiwan, Hong Kong, UK, and Switzerland…

and to everyone who finished walking the path with Kobo Daishi…

Fall Season for Shikoku 88 Temple Pilgrims has arrived, and our English orientation session "Ohenro First Steps" is back!

Get all the advice you need to get started on the pilgrimage in a convenient, concise workshop. What do I do at the temples? What gear/supplies do I need? How do I catch buses and trains? How do I make lodging reservations? All this and more will be answered. The orientation fee includes the workshop, materials, and a small gift.

"Ohenro First Steps" is held almost every day 3:30-5:00 pm at the Tokushima Welcome Center (Amico Bldg. 1F Streetside) near JR Tokushima Station. Orientation fee is 2000 yen (cash only). Reservations are recommended, but walk-ins can be accommodated on many days (see monthly schedule for details).

You can reserve a spot by e-mail at [email protected] or by sending a message to us here on Messenger.

The Tokushima Welcome Center has maps, transportation schedules, model routes, and English-speaking staff to assist you. We also sell several English pilgrimage guidebooks, pilgrim gear, and can assist with reserving henro accommodations for a modest fee. Feel free to drop by before and after your pilgrimage.

Looking forward to helping you on your journey!

Kechigan Photos - Summer (June, July, August) 2025
(Congratulations on completing your journey!)

I’m so sorry! Somehow time slipped by and we forgot to acknowledge all of the amazing (crazy?) pilgrims who finished their journey in this year’s INTENSE summer. This was really a test of wills, and many people decided to cut their trip short or slow down their pace because it was too hot to be walking on asphalt and concrete in 35 degree Celsius heat.

We were busy selling tickets for Awa Odori (Japan’s biggest dance festival) in July and August, and we finally started gearing up this week for the fall Henro season.

To all of you summer survivors…
June finishers: Chris Pratt (not the actor), Carole, Joey, Hisashi, Hsiang-Ting, Reuben, Rubens, Ken, and Michael…
July finishers: Yoshiyuki, Marina, Reiko, Yoriko, Esther, Phil, Karen, Yu Cheng, Chon Hwi…
August finishers: Daniel, Tarry, and Weili…
…from the USA, France, Japan, Taiwan, Australia, Brazil, the UK, the Netherlands, New Zealand, South Korea, and Germany…

and to everyone who finished walking the path with Kobo Daishi…

結願おめでとうございます! (Kechigan omedetou gozaimasu!)
