Big news on the wire, announced by booking.com that Nozawa Onsen Village is one of the `Top 10 most welcoming places on earth`, something we already knew of course. The culture of family inn hospitality is starting to get recognized outside Japan, but there is an over 90% repeater ratio and scores of local Japanese who visit the village consistently every year that attests to something special here... perhaps `welcoming` gives an appropriate name to it.

The mountain gods looking over our sweet home Nozawa Onsen Village have blessed us well just in time for a very white Christmas celebration - happy holidays to everyone, however and whatever you choose to celebrate. We highly recommend spending some time in the magical winter wonderland that is Nagano this season!

A favorite drive is from Shiga Kogen south to Yamada Bokujo (ranch)... and then down into Takayama-mura, or go the other way around and come down to the Snow Monkey Park near Yudanaka/Shibu Onsen.
