A stronger sense of living at the basement floor.

The solid, dignified ground floor is of course beautiful.
And yet, in the hushed darkness of the underground,
the soft, fleeting shadows of those who once lived here seem to appear and disappear.

Perhaps under the influence of "Downton Abbey":
it is the 'Downstairs' where one feels the breath of life.

This sensibility is quietly evoked by the paintings of Teppei Saotome.
They are abstract, yet each work carries a refrain tied to a specific space.
Is this the subtle skill of the curator?

The breathing presence of Kudan House is palpable.
Curation⇔Fair Tokyo — a wonderful experience.

重厚な1階ももちろん素敵なのだけど
ひっそりとしている暗い地階に
なぜか昔暮らしていた方々の
ふわっとした影がおぼろに見え隠れ
ダウントンアビーに影響されてか、
"downstairs"にこそ息吹を感じる

それを想像させる早乙女哲平さんの絵画群
抽象的なのだけどそれぞれの
スペースへのリフレインも感じる
これはキュレーターさんの妙なのだろうか

At teamLab Planets:
“Catching and Collecting the Extinct Forest.”

Drawn in by both the gameplay and the beauty,
I became absorbed—
catching and releasing animals one after another.

Each time an animal is captured via the app,
its information is added to my personal encyclopedia.
Catching the same animal again expands the entry further.
But from the fourth capture onward,
no new information is added, no matter how many times you catch it.

Eager to complete the encyclopedia,
I kept chasing animals.
Even when I caught the same species again, I found myself thinking, honestly,

“Oh no—
not the California Grizzly again.
I wanted the Caspian Tiger in the back!”

And in my impatience to catch the next animal,
I would release the bear almost carelessly.

When I had collected around 70 of the total 86 extinct species
and felt satisfied,
I suddenly caught myself grinning—
and froze.

“Because it’s rare!”
“Because it’s beautiful!!”
“Because I just want the satisfaction of collecting!!!”

Species lost to human desire like this
(of course, extinction has many causes, not just one).
And yet, I realized: I am one of those humans.

What if hundreds, thousands, tens of thousands of people
were doing this at the same time?

It’s beautiful—
but deeply unsettling.
It makes you stop and think.

And the next time you want something,
it quietly asks you:
“Do you really need this?”

そのゲーム性と美しさに
夢中になって次々と動物を
キャッチ&リリース

アプリで動物を捕まえるごとに
自分の図鑑に動物の情報が書き込まれていく
同じ動物を捕まえるとさらに図鑑の情報が増える
でも4匹目からは捕まえても情報は増えない

図鑑をコンプリートしたくて
次々に動物を捕まえる
同じ動物を捕まえても正直、
「もう、カリフォルニアハイイログマじゃなくて、
奥のカスピトラが欲しかったのに」
と思って、早く次の動物を捕まえたくて
ぞんざいにクマリリースしたり

そして全86種の絶滅動物図鑑を
70種ほど集めて満足した頃、
にやにやしている自分にハッとした

「珍しいから」
「綺麗だから」
「ただ集めて満足したいから」

こんな人間の欲望で
失われていった生命の種
（もちろん絶滅理由はそれだけではないが）

私はそんな人間の一人
取り尽くす行為に熱中していた

これを何百、何千、何万もの人が
同時にしたら？

きれいだけど、
ゾッとして、
考えさせられ、
次に自分が何かを欲した時に
「本当にこれは必要？」
と、考えさせてくれる

だからチームラボのアートが好きだ

each standing poised and dignified, yet something remained vague and unclear.

It feels like hotels are no longer just about the extraordinary, but about savoring a quality kind of everyday life.

Brown seems to be the trend base tone of the luxury hotel interiors now a days, including the Fairmont Tokyo.
Oh I love this high ceiling and welcoming atmosphere!

All around the property, you’ll find art pieces—some recalling traditional Japanese crafts like kintsugi or paper-cutting. Yet what’s refreshing is that the artists are not necessarily Japanese.

The art concept here is “Inheriting Overlaps.”
Indeed, different cultures and thresholds overlap seamlessly, creating a new style.

This is the kind of hotel where I’d love not only to welcome my guests, but also to completely immerse myself.

Next time I come here to greet my guests, I’ll be sure to wear something brown to match the vibe!

ホテルは非日常ではなく、
上質な日常を楽しむ場へ

最近のラグジュアリーホテルは
明るいブラウンがインテリアの基調
研ぎ澄まされた黒やグレーより暖かい

館内のあちらこちらにあるアートピース
金継ぎや紙切りなど、一見すると
伝統的な日本美術に見受けられるけども
必ずしも日本人アーティストではない所がまた良き

そう、様々な文化や端境が
違和感なくオーバーラップして
新たなスタイルとなっていた
空間にいるだけでわくわくするホテルさんだった
お客様お迎えに来るだけでなく

There are bonds both inside and outside the circle.
There is harmony both inside and outside the ring.
It embraces, connects, and opens.

The Grand Roof Ring of Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai is incredible.

At the center of the ring lies the Silent Forest, where Yoko Ono quietly frames a round piece of sky.

A building that seems to whisper life’s stories.

The layers of mysterious forms are like layers of people's heart involved in this building.

That spiraling piping, what could it be used for?
Will flowers bloom on the soil-covered eaves?

Through use, it will surely evolve once again.
A vision of happiness taking shape.

After being setbacked for 10 meters, I look forward to seeing it once more.

Excuse me for sharing something unrelated to architecture, but let me post this because I was so happy as an interpreter tour guide.

I was interviewed for "The Book on Becoming an Interpreter/Translator 2026" by Ikaros Publishing!

I’m grateful that they featured me in full color pages in the opening section of the book.

I hope that the article will be a help who wants to be a national licensed tour guide of Japan!
