🏯 A breathtaking place where you can overlook the sky, mountains, sea, and city all at once!

Yonago Castle in Tottori was selected as the “Strongest Castle in Japan” in the NHK special program“Japan’s Strongest Castles SP Vol.10 – Spectacular Castles You Must Visit Once in Your Life,” broadcast on New Year’s Day 2022!

Built on Minatoyama Hill in the center of Yonago City, Yonago Castle was a hirayama-style castle that preserved many features from the Sengoku period. It once had a five-story main keep and a four-story secondary tower, earning the title of “The Greatest Castle in the San’in Region.”

Although the original buildings no longer remain today, the impressive stone walls and castle ruins have been beautifully preserved. From the castle tower ruins, you can enjoy a 360° panoramic view of Mt. Daisen, the Sea of Japan, Nakaumi Lagoon, and Yonago City✨

Free admission No time limit About a 20-minute walk from the entrance to the top An easy hike — even possible in a suit!

🌅 One of the most magical sights here is the “Diamond Daisen,” which can only be seen around February 20 and October 22 each year.

As the sun slowly rises from the summit of Mt. Daisen, golden light pours over the city like a divine blessing — a truly unforgettable view.

With ongoing archaeological excavations and preservation efforts, Yonago Castle Ruins have become one of Tottori’s most popular destinations, combining history, romance, and breathtaking scenery✨

Local Comfort Food Spot Loved by Tottori Locals

If you want to experience what ordinary local people in Japan usually eat,
this small diner called “Hiyoshi” is highly recommended.

Located near the Uradome Coast, this traditional Japanese diner has a nostalgic Showa-era atmosphere.
It’s not a restaurant made for tourists, but a place where local residents regularly come for everyday meals.

The dishes in the photos include:
Ramen
Fried Fish Curry
Japanese Fried Chicken Set Meal (Karaage Teishoku)

The restaurant is run by an elderly couple, giving the place a warm and authentic local feeling.
With Japan’s aging population, it’s becoming more common to see these traditional eateries operated by older couples.
