THINGIRA CULTURAL VILLAGE
It is said that “mwacha mila ni mtumwa.” He who abandons his culture becomes a slave. One of the simplest, most meaningful ways to root our children in who they are is to take them where culture still breathes.
Thingira Cultural Village, tucked along the Nairobi–Karatina highway, is one such place. Quiet, unassuming, and yet rich with the spirit of the Mt. Kenya people. Here, learners encounter material culture up close: pottery shaped by hand, weapons that once guarded homesteads, carvings that spoke without words, and jewels that adorned identity.
Whats more-sometimes the place comes alive with music!
A troupe of traditional dancers takes the stage-feet pounding, drums throbbing, voices rising. It is not just a performance but a living story, one that pulls learners right into the rhythm of a people.
At Drum Major Tours, we curate educational tours that go beyond the classroom-bringing schools and colleges to sites like this and other hidden gems across Kirinyaga County.
