Tim Leperes Photography Guiding can be an extremely rewarding career and in fact is probably better described as a lifestyle.

The job of a field guide (or ranger as they are called in some areas) is often glamorized. From an early age, my family and I spent an annual vacation in the Maasai Mara where my passion for wildlife was fueled and developed. I was fascinated by the intricacies and wonders of nature and my thirst for knowledge and understanding resulted in the acquisition of a considerable library of related liter

ature (field guides and scientific journals) and a dedication to self-study that continues to this day.

For decades, Craig walked the dusty plains with quiet authority, his great ivory telling a story of survival, patience, and resilience in a changing world. He was more than an elephant; he was a symbol of hope for conservation, a living reminder of what Africa once was ,and what it must still protect.
To guides, rangers, photographers, and all who were lucky enough to share a moment with him, Craig taught us reverence: how to slow down, observe, and respect the ancient rhythms of the land.

Rest gently, old bull.
Your footprints remain in the dust, your legacy in our hearts, and your spirit in every tusker that still roams free.

Deep in Samburu land, water is not just drawn,it is sung into being.
As men descend into the narrow earth wells, their voices rise in rhythmic chants, echoing off ancient walls carved by generations before them. Each song has a purpose: to give strength, to keep time, to honor the animals waiting above, and to remind everyone that water here is life.
Water cans are passed hand to hand in a living chain, guided by melody and trust. Cattle, goats, and camels wait patiently, knowing the sound this is survival wrapped in song. The harmony carries across the dry riverbed, a timeless soundtrack of resilience, cooperation, and deep respect for nature.
This is Samburu heritage at its purest.
No machines. No rush. Just voices, community, and the rhythm of life in the dry north of Kenya.
