When you think what colour an elephant should be, you certainly don't think red (grey or greyish, or even brown maybe). In Tsavo East national park, however, we have elephants referred to at The Red Elephants of Tsavo.

Their colour is so as a result of the colour of the soil in the national park. Elephants regularly partake in dust baths to protect their skin so the ones in Tsavo East appear red as the soil of Tsavo is naturally of this colour.
