Here is why this matters enough to save this post:
โธ The conservancy zones carry a fraction of the vehicle traffic of the main reserve. At a significant sighting โ a lion kill, a cheetah with cubs โ you may be the only vehicle present. In the main reserve during July, that same sighting might draw 30 vehicles.
โธ Conservancies permit off-road driving. When a leopard moves into long grass, your guide follows. In the main reserve, your guide stops at the road edge.
โธ Your guide communicates in real time with other conservancy guides across the ecosystem. If a pride has made a kill at dawn two kilometres away, your vehicle knows within minutes.
โธ Night drives are permitted in the conservancies. In the main reserve, your day ends when the light does.
โธ Sunrise and sunset drives happen in near-silence. Just you, your guide, the bush, and whatever decides to appear.
