The Window Knock
Each night, after the guests had retired to their rooms, a particularly cheeky giraffe named Lucy would make her rounds. She had a peculiar habit: tapping gently with her long, velvety tongue on the windows of the manor. One evening, a first-time guest, Emily, was in her room reading when she heard a sound—a light tapping at the window. When she pulled back the curtain, she saw Lucy’s big, curious eyes staring in at her, as though asking, “What’s for dinner, human?” Startled but amused, Emily laughed and waved at the giraffe. Lucy responded by slowly pulling back her neck and swishing her tail, seemingly satisfied with the brief interaction. From that night on, Emily made sure to leave a light on near the window—just in case Lucy came for a visit.
