A very sad day for the animal industry. Dingo Dinkleman sadly passed away from a green mamba bite he received a month ago and was hospitalized since. Not the news I anticipated seeing today when I opened social media, and it’s a humble reminder of how quickly things can change when working with these animals.

Dingo has received bites from different African species in the past, and developed a hypersensitivity to African Elapidae venom. Once you become this hypersensitive, there’s almost no way to prevent a fatality from occurring.

Dingo is an inspiration to people worldwide. His videos were always extremely educational and I enjoyed watching his content. My Rinkhals cobras Mortica and Gomez came from Dingo, making them even more special to me.

• Nairobi to Nanyuki: Ksh 400

First-Class cabins are available for Ksh 500 or Ksh 1,000.

On the return journey, the Nanyuki Safari Train leaves Nanyuki every Sunday morning with these rates:

• Nanyuki to Naromoru: Ksh 50
• Nanyuki to Gawanaz Chaka: Ksh 50
• Nanyuki to Kiganjo: Ksh 80
• Nanyuki to Karatina: Ksh 100
• Nanyuki to Sagana: Ksh 150

Walking on Lilies
Perched on it's long legs, the Jacana walks with a light step across the surface of the water, supporting itself on lotuses, water lilies and other floating aquatic plants. Acting not unlike show shoes, it's feet and disproportionately long toes, which have long, thin nails, provide perfect support for ots well distributed body weight and prevent the bird from sinking into the water. Infact, the limbs of the Jacana are do well adapted for walking on water that the bird has trouble getting around on land.
