The reason most african families regurgitate poverty and live in perennial 'hustle' mode is because, some of you toil hard, from abject poverty, make it in life without inheritance, but instead of incubating your children to take over, learn and build your empire forward, you tell the kids... "Look for your own money".
Wealth diminishes in one generation and you find children of former wealthy people chugging whole jugs of keg liquor wishing death to their parents so that they squander whatever wealth the parents have. And just like that, their kids have to start again and again. From zero. Like a curse on loop.
Show me an African Toyota company. A McDonald's, a Ford, a Samsung, a Daimler Benz corporation.... where's our Kawasaki, Tata or Louis Vuitton?
We can't export anything we have produced and perfected over time because, even in a family of four, father , mother, daughter and son, everyone is gravitating towards their own unnurtured dream of independent squalor. There's no collective purpose, to build strong legacies.
Our businesses don't last to our grandkids.
It reminds me of bullying in highschool. The reason first formers were always bullied was because the older classes had gone through it. You'd expect the ones in second form to protect the new comers to end a cycle of bullying.
Since we can't all think progressively, then it's upon the two or three here who can make it in life to change the fortunes of the generations after them for a collective better society.
We cry everyday of unemployment and lack of strong private sector businesses to absorb our youth. How will we do it if in Kenya it's only the asians and the whites who still run businesses generations old? How will we improve ourselves if every business we start only lasts our lifetime? In fact most of our businesses die out before we got to old age. Because we are selfish, financially illiterate, short sighted, myopic and do not trust our own progeny, product of our own loins.
We must totally shift our minds from the poverty stinkpot to that of progression. And your family is where you start from.
