At the heart of every pride is a sisterhood of related females - mothers, daughters, half-sisters, cousins, aunts, grandmothers and at times even great grandmothers.

They are closely bonded, and this is reinforced by socialising with one another, rubbing heads, sniffing under tails, eating from the same kills, hunting together, and raising cubs of a similar age in a creche and defending them from attack by nomadic males.

When lions are well fed they tend to engage more frequently in bouts of play that may involve adults and cubs. In this photograph you can see one of the pride males resting up in the thicket where the mothers and cubs have just come from.

There was a slight sense of tension between the mothers of the cubs, and the male (even though they were his and his companions’ offspring). This was then released as the mothers moved the cubs away, with the two generations of cubs delighted to have the opportunity to play.

Landscape:
The landscape of Meru National Park is incredibly diverse, ranging from open grasslands to lush riverine forests, rocky outcrops, and acacia woodlands. The park is traversed by numerous rivers, including the Tana River, and is characterized by scenic landscapes such as the Adamson's Falls and the majestic Mughwango Hill.
Wildlife:

Guided nature walks offer a chance to experience the park on foot, accompanied by knowledgeable guides who provide insights into the flora, fauna, and ecology of Meru.
Fishing excursions are possible on the Tana River, offering anglers the opportunity to catch various freshwater fish species while enjoying the tranquility of the riverine environment.
Conservation:

Millions Racing to Path of Totality for Eclipse 2024 APRIL 8TH National Geographic Adventure

The total solar eclipse on April 8th, 2024, is expected to be a spectacular event drawing millions of people to the path of totality. National Geographic Adventure magazine is likely covering this phenomenon due to its significance and the awe-inspiring experience it offers to those who witness it. Here's why this eclipse is generating so much excitement:

Rare Celestial Event: Total solar eclipses are relatively rare events, and each one offers a unique viewing experience. The opportunity to witness the moon completely blocking the sun, plunging the area into darkness, is a once-in-a-lifetime experience for many people.

Path of Totality: The path of totality, where the moon completely covers the sun, will span a certain region, offering the best viewing conditions for the eclipse. In 2024, this path will cross through parts of North America, including Mexico, the United States, and Canada, attracting eclipse chasers from around the world.

Natural Wonders: Total solar eclipses are not only scientifically fascinating but also emotionally and spiritually powerful experiences. The sudden darkness, the appearance of the sun's corona, and the changes in the environment create a sense of wonder and awe that captivates observers.

Community and Connection: Eclipse events often bring people together, fostering a sense of community and connection among observers. Whether it's gathering with friends and family or joining organized eclipse viewing parties, there's a shared excitement and anticipation surrounding the event.

Adventure and Exploration: For many, traveling to witness a total solar eclipse is an adventure in itself. It may involve road trips, camping in remote locations, or embarking on expeditions to reach the path of totality, adding an element of exploration and discovery to the experience.

Overall, the total solar eclipse of April 8th, 2024, promises to be an unforgettable event, drawing adventurers, scientists, and skywatchers alike to witness this awe-inspiring celestial spectacle. National Geographic Adventure magazine's coverage reflects the widespread interest and enthusiasm surrounding this extraordinary natural phenomenon.
