On Friday, we held a very successful Special General Meeting (SGM) of The Advocates' Benevolent Association pursuant to the resolution of members during the AGM held in March '26. I'm particularly glad that members overwhelmingly approved the new ABA Rules '26. The new Rules provide for, amongst others, a graduated pathway to life membership including for Advocates not holding PC, clarify categories of membership and beneficiaries, and augment policy priorities for the Board. As a Board, we'll prioritise implementation of the new Rules and optimise on policies that benefit the membership. Yesterday, alongside colleagues on the Advocates' Benevolent Association Board, I joined the Law Society of Kenya Council for LSK South Eastern Branch visit in Machakos. We took the opportunity to invite members to ABA SGM to be held (virtually) on July 31 '26 to discuss and approve the new ABA Rules. The SGM will be preceded by a webinar on July 23 '26

The Rules, among others, clarify membership (including for those who ordinarily don't need to hold an annual PC), benefits (including for retired Advocates), access to education policy benefits for (biological or legal) children of deceased Advocates, the medical policy support for distressed colleagues (including for chemotherapy & dialysis), and the last expense benefit.

We further highlighted key partnerships ABA has entered to support mental health, physical wellbeing and dignified retirement for Advocates.

I'm running for ABA Board Member and humbly request for your vote as one of the 4 members.

Elections will be held electronically on March 6, 2026 (next Friday), and ALL LSK members who held PC in 2025 are eligible to vote.

ABA is critical to the welfare and future of our members.It needs stable, experienced and thoughtful leadership capable of navigating ever-changing needs of our members. It needs innovation to guarantee sustainability and resilience.
