DID YOU KNOW!
There are 3 species of hyena(Sci- Hyaenidae)
The spotted, striped, and brown hyenas differ in size, behavior, and reproduction.
1. The spotted hyena is the largest, a skilled hunter and scavenger living in large matriarchal clans in African savannas, with a 110-day gestation and a unique female reproductive system featuring a pseudo-pen*s.
2. The striped hyena is smaller, mostly solitary, primarily a scavenger, inhabits dry and rocky regions, and has a 90–92-day gestation with a typical mammalian reproductive system.
3. The brown hyena has long dark fur, lives in small family groups, feeds mainly on carrion, occupies arid southern African habitats, and has a 97-day gestation with a conventional reproductive system.

NB; Aardwolves are smaller and more lightly built member of the Hyena family.

DID YOU KNOW!
There are 3 species of girrafes in Kenya?
1. The Northern giraffe is characterized by large, sharply outlined chestnut patches set on a pale cream background, with the unmistakable feature of pure white lower legs, giving it a clean, high-contrast appearance.
2. The Masai giraffe stands out through its dark, irregular, vine-like blotches with jagged edges that often flow down the legs, creating a bold, rugged pattern and reflecting its adaptation to open savanna landscapes; it is also typically the tallest giraffe species.
3. The Southern giraffe presents a more orderly and balanced look, with rounded or star-shaped patches, smooth margins, and a light tan background, resulting in a softer, symmetrical pattern. These consistent differences in coat pattern, leg markings, and overall structure are the result of long-term genetic separation and provide reliable criteria for species-level identification in the field.
