In honour of Ndotto’s new, grown-up chapter — see our previous post — we wanted to share a then-and-now of our little dream. (His name means ‘dream’ in Swahili!)

When they rescued him, Ndotto was not only the tiniest orphan ever to come into our care but also the smallest elephant they had ever seen. Herdsmen found him as a newborn, huddled among their goats and sheep. They not sure how he became orphaned, but it seems likely that his mother abandoned him in a panic upon encountering humans. The resourceful — and lucky — little calf found himself in sympathetic company, and the rest is history.
