Did you know that hippos can’t actually swim.

Even though they spend most of the day in water, they’re too dense to float. Instead they walk, run, or bounce along the bottom of rivers and lakes. They can hold their breath for up to 5 minutes while doing it.

And get this — they can “run” underwater at about 8 km/h. So it looks like they’re gliding.

Wild, right?
