The Nile Crocodiles are the largest freshwater predators in Africa. They have powerful jaws that give a powerful bite with their sharp conical teeth, which sink into flesh, allowing a grip that is almost impossible to loosen.. and are capable of taking almost any animal within their range.
Their unique body form allows the eyes, ears, and nostrils to be above the water surface while most of the animal is hidden below.
When it closes it’s mouth, all teeth are visible..since the upper and lower jaws are of the same width. These jaws have relatively weak opening muscles, which can be held shut with just a rubber band, or your bare hands (don’t try)..and in addition.. they have a valve at the back of their throat, which allows them to open the jaws under water.
The ‘Crocs’ often sleep or relax. With their mouths wide open. By this, they are not displaying aggression.. but releasing heat to cool themselves down since they don’t sweat.
Something else amazing.. they can have almost 60 teeth at any one time, and can have over 2000 teeth during their lifetime. When one loses a tooth, there is a small replacement already on standby.. and Having the most acidic stomach of any vertebrate.. they swallow small stones to improve their digestion. The stones help grind up the food in their stomachs..hence the reason you see some crocs eating their prey whole, or feeding on tougher animals with shells and bones.
Ask your self; Why do we use the term “Crocodile tears” ? Do crocodiles really shed tears?
