🚙 An Epic Drive to Lake Ellis via Chogoria Gate – Mount Kenya Awaits! 🏔️
Ever thought about driving up Mount Kenya instead of hiking? We took the adventure route via Chogoria Gate to Lake Ellis, and it was nothing short of breathtaking!
Our Journey
🌅 Early Start – Left Nairobi at 5 AM, reaching Chogoria Gate by 8:15 AM. The drive up was mesmerizing—lush tea farms, cool morning mist, and the distant call of birds.
🌲 Into the Wild – Past the Forest Station, we encountered a dense canopy of towering trees, lively hornbills, and fresh elephant dung—evidence of the mountain’s hidden giants! 🌿🐘
🎋 Bamboo & Beyond – At 2800m, the rainforest gave way to the bamboo zone, and then to open moorlands with panoramic mountain views. This is where real adventurers cross paths—hikers finishing their multi-day treks, porters reuniting with their teams.
🏕️ Final Ascent to Lake Ellis – After a tricky 11KM climb, a steep descent, and a rugged boulder-strewn track, we finally reached the turquoise waters of Lake Ellis. And what a reward it was! Snow-capped peaks in the distance, crisp mountain air, and an inviting campsite by the shore.
☕ Breakfast with a View – Pancakes, mocha, green maize, eggs, and burgers—devoured with the lake as our backdrop. Nothing tastes better than a well-earned meal in the wild!
