🐍 African Rock Python Swallowing a Bushbuck 🦌
Large pythons are among Africa’s most powerful predators and can overpower and swallow sizeable antelope, especially a young or smaller bushbuck.
A large African rock python may:
1. Ambush its prey and bite to secure its hold.
2. Coil around the animal, using powerful constriction to subdue it.
3. Swallow the prey head-first, allowing the limbs to fold naturally against the body.
4. Use its highly flexible jaws—which do not truly dislocate—to gradually engulf prey much wider than its head.
5. Stretch its skin and body as the prey slowly moves through its digestive tract.
6. Survive for weeks or even months without another meal after consuming such a large animal.
