Kanyundo Peak and Maratini Hill made their debut on our calendar today🥳

It was our first time taking a team there, and what a day it turned out to be✨. Beautiful weather, great energy throughout, and a full team summit💪🏾👏🏾

We’re especially proud of this team. Not just for reaching the summit together, but for the spirit they brought to the whole experience. Strong, present, and supportive of each other from start to finish.

There’s something special about sharing a trail for the first time with a group like this. We’re grateful they were the team that got to experience Kanyundo and Maratini with us as part of our Avi calendar.

Days like this remind us why we keep exploring, why we keep adding new/existing trails, and why these shared moments out in the hills matter so much.

A really good day out. Pamoja all the way. Grateful for this crew.

RURIMERIA PEAK, ABERDARE RANGE (3,860m asl)

🏔️ About the Trail:
Rurimeria is one of the Aberdare Range peaks in Kenya. It reaches an elevation of 3,860 meters above sea level, making it higher than Elephant hill, and only 200 feet shorter than the famous Mt Kinangop. This trail is a very scenic hiking destination in Kenya and very ideal for anyone looking for the perfect physical + mental challenge, preparing for Mt Kenya/Kilimanjaro, and already into high altitude climbing.

Difficulty Level : DIFFICULT (perfect for high altitude training. Kindly note that this is a very challenging hike and not recommended for beginners. You need to be in good physical shape & properly geared:)

Trail Distance: 15 kms.
Elevation gain: 1,150m
Duration of Hike: 7–8 hours

Our summit night started with ponchos. And we had to have them on for like 2 to 3 hours. Of course with the ponchos you feel a bit hot because we all threw them onto our existing layers. At this time, just rain sounds. Difference is, it is night time, and you are walking so you actually can’t sleep to the rain sounds. Our Team is doing great. We are all quiet. We take some breaks in between. Some of us smile. Others just quiet.

Ahead is our lead guide followed by our team leader. This first stretch required creating a way. The guide could step, and the team leader could (gently) foot dig a little deeper so that the rest of the team has place to step.

We waited for each other. Listened to our own types of music. Others real music, others, just silence. We as Avi already knew this entire team was going to make it. Yes. Takes a lot of bts work but we believed in all of them. Very important thing. The health checks had been perfect so far so at this point it was just one foot in front of the other.

Above 4,600m was just a snowy affair. It wasn’t very cold. Not windy so we were so lucky on nature’s side. On and on, we climbed.
