On our last trip to Japan, we decided to add Hiroshima and Miyajima to our itinerary. We did this after Tokyo and before heading to Kyoto, and we spent two nights there. The museums are appropriate for children in my opinion, but I did do some reading and prefacing with the kids so they kind of understood what they were looking at.
