Types of Visas

Ordinary Visa: Issued for Single or Multiple entries to persons whose nationalities require visas to enter Kenya.

Transit Visa: Issued for periods not exceeding three days to persons whose nationalities require visas to enter Kenya and who intend to transit through Kenya to a different destination.

Diplomatic Visa: Issued for Single or Multiple entries to holders of Diplomatic passports who are on official duty.

Courtesy/ Official Visa: Issued to persons holding Official or Service passports on Official duty and to Ordinary passport holders who are not entitled to Diplomatic visa; but where it is considered by the Director to be desirable on the grounds of international courtesy.

East Africa Tourist Visa: This is a joint tourist visa that entitles holders to travel to and within the Republic of Kenya, Republic of Rwanda and

• 52 Asians went home with their citizenship as the Government vowed to end statelessness.

• Matiang’i announced the process to grant Kenyan citizenship to eligible but currently stateless persons in the country will be concluded before this year’s Jamhuri Day celebrations

Members of the Stateless Asians of Kenya Community were awarded Kenyan citizenship certificates on Thursday.

Fify-two Asians went home with their certificates as the government vowed to end statelessness.

In attendance during the award ceremony were Director of Immigration Alexander Muteshi, Head of stateless task force and Director Foreign national management directorate of immigration Eunice Lamba among others.

Muteshi said that being stateless is a major human rights issue, "because once you are stateless, it's very difficult for you to be able to engage in any economic activity and its difficult for your family to access basic services."

In July, Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i announced the process to grant Kenyan citizenship to eligible but stateless persons in the country will be concluded before this year’s Jamhuri Day celebration.

The last of stateless people in the country who qualify for Kenyan citizenship will have their status regularized by December this year.

Speaking during the issuance of citizenship certificates to 1,649 members of the Shona community, the CS however said the process will be undertaken without compromising national security.

The CS further revealed that the Directorate of Immigration Services, the National Registration Bureau (NRB) and the Department of Civil Registration, will confer citizenship on the Sagaf community of Tana River.

The community will be the last batch of stateless persons in the country targeted for the exercise.

What you need to know when applying for a dependent pass
Dependent Passes

A dependant is an individual who is unable to take care of themselves because of age, medical condition or lack of income. The applicant needs to prove that one has sufficient income to support the dependant for the duration of stay in the country. The applicant must also provide proof of one’s relationship with the dependant by the presentation of a birth certificate, a marriage certificate or a death certificate. In case the dependant has a disability due to a medical condition, the applicant may produce a medical certificate as proof of incapacity.
