Neatly tucked in a serene location in Nakuru County, surrounded by grassy banks and shingled with cacti and sand olive trees, Lake Naivasha boosts the unrivalled tag of being at the highest elevation of the Rift Valley (at 1,884 metres).

Lake Naivasha is located just 93km from Kenya’s capital Nairobi and has a surface area of 139km2, surrounded by a swamp an area of 64 km2.

It is home to a variety of wildlife including over 400 different species of bird and a huge population of hippopotamus.

The freshwater lake derives its name from the Maasai name Nai’posha which means rough water because of the sudden storm which can arise.

Africa: The Safari!

Being in the Maasai Mara was unbelievable. It felt like we were on a movie set the entire time.

Fun Facts::

1. Masai Mara has the highest concentration of the big predators in the world, the lion population has been increasing year in year out with the current population estimated over 600 lions remaining in the ecosystem.

2. Every year, almost two million wildebeest, zebra and gazelle travel from the Serengeti up to the Maasai Mara (and back again), feeding on the lush grass that springs up after seasonal rains.

3. More than 470 species of birds have been identified in the park, many of which are migrants, with almost 60 species being raptors.

4. Whatever you do... you DON’T get out of your vehicle! 🙂
