Kilimanjaro has never belonged to Kenya… but let’s face it, the view belongs to us! 😎 Some jealous Tanzanian MP even suggested building a wall so Kenyans couldn’t enjoy it. Don’t worry, we still get the best view!
Legend says the German Kaiser admired Mount Kenya, which Britain controlled. He complained to his grandmother, Queen Victoria, who, legend has it , just took a pen,re drew the map and gave him Kilimanjaro as a birthday gift. Yes… a whole mountain, snow-capped, and all!
Fun story, right? Sadly, it’s just a myth. Borders weren’t birthday gifts — they were treaties drawn by Europeans far from here.
The real tea? In 1886, Germany officially claimed Kilimanjaro as part of German East Africa. They insisted it belonged to them, and Britain agreed to avoid a fight ,they had influence elsewhere anyway. That’s how Kilimanjaro ended up in Tanzania.
Some fun facts while you admire it:
Kilimanjaro is Africa’s highest mountain at 5,895 m.
It’s a dormant volcano with three peaks: Kibo, Mawenzi, and Shira.
Its snow cap is melting faster than ice in a Kenyan chai cup… and yes, climate change is real!
Kilimanjaro may be Tanzanian, but the view from Kenya? Unbeatable.
